Caption Battle: It's A Trap!

"It's that time again..."
"To talk about Michael Phelps some more?"
"Do carbon-date the ages of the Chinese Gymnastics Team?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, having gone with the classic movie quote: cougarsama!

Ranma: "But Rhett, where will I go, what will I do?"
Akane: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

In second place, just hitting the mark with some delicious, delicious irony the more and more you think about it: Burning Silver!

Ranma: "Someday, I'll be a REAL boy!"
Akane: "..."

And in the coveted first place, both nailing it in one line of text as well as making Batou laugh like a total girl (irony considering the context)... Tim The Enchanter!

Oh my god, that dress never goes on sale!

Job well done. Tasty fish were had by all.

So now we come to this week. We're going with a screencap courtesy of mewmewlover55, featuring the ever-popular series Gravitation. Now that said... we all know what Gravitation is about, and we all know what the picture looks like... again, feel free to go for "the obvious joke" if you must, but it still has to be a joke. If your usage of "the obvious joke" is not an especially interesting or funny, it will lose. So we all prepped, then? Okay.

Left to right you have K, Shuichi, Suguru, and Hiroshi. Don't fail me, now:

You know the drill: type up the funniest, wittiest, most original caption you can think of for the screencap above in the comments below. Also, if any of you would like some tips on writing a great caption, you can find those here.

And like always, theOtaku is open to all submissions and suggestions for weekly feature content. You have a screencap you want used, you can PM me and we can do somethin' about it. Remember the golden rule, now: "yaoi is not inherently funny..."

Caption Battle: Imitations Not Flattering...

(Sorry for the slight delay; I can quite literally blame China for that.)

"It's that time again..."
"To set our TiVos for the Beijing Opening Ceremonies?"
"To get set to protest the Beijing Opening Ceremonies?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, reaffirming the classic storytelling trope of "why don't they just shoot him: Sage of Magic!

When auditioning for the part of 'Jessie' in Pokemon only one girl provided an interesting twist to capturing pikachu.

In second place, being crude as always but making me snicker all the same: schultzie!

Guy in glasses (thinking): "If she farts, it would totally ruin the moment."

And in the coveted first place, being funny in the black way (and apparently convincing several others along the way)... master hiko!

At 8:52 her mother in law is supposed to drive into the drive way.

Regardless of what the podcasters thought, there were many amazing captions this week. I definitely had a hard time picking the final three. That's a good thing; now let's see if we can keep that up, eh?

This week involves another chance for me to clear out the old screencap pile, so we're going with a shot from Ranma 1/2 this week. Ranma is the one on the right; Akane is the one on the left. Give it a shot:

Caption Battle: Servicing Fans, Kicking Butts

"It's that time again..."
"To try to shoot the dog in Duck Hunt?"
"To get thirty lives?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, going the way of the morning bagel: DemonKingAtticus!

Kana: Hurry up or we'll be late for our cream cheese commercial audition!

In second place, going the way of the implied crossover idea: tinydynamine!

Aw, even angels get hangovers. Except that when they do, Tokyo tends to blow up.

And in the coveted first place, for making me giggle for a split second before I regained my composure... Aethelwynne!

Eenie. Meanie. Minie. Moe...
Catch an angel by the halo!!

Ahh, fun times. Congratulations, guys and girls! And now for this week...

So once again, we have the good graces of a screencap from Kimmeh's stash. From it, we have the grand new-to-TV series Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann and features... Yoko in the skirt, and... mostly forgettable mooks everywhere else. If you know their names, more power to ya; if you don't need their names for a good caption, even more power to ya. But I digress - here's the picture:

Caption Battle: Just A Little Higher...

"It's that time again..."
"To burninate the thatched-roof cottages?"
"To carry on through the fire and the flames?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, being as eloquent as ever: Allamorph!

Surprisingly, the most casualties in the attack were due not to gunshot wounds, but to the medical oddity known as PSWTF, or 'Perpetual State of What The F***'.

In second place, hitting rather close to home: twilight luna!

Meet the guy who takes care of all the "shot'd" moments on TheOtaku.

And in the coveted first place, with the most poetic reinterpretation of Theodore Roosevelt I've ever heard... Zelgadis!

Squeak softly and carry a big BOOMSTICK!!!

Good job! We had another pretty good week this past week. Keep it up!

So this week we dip back into our vast TimberWolf cache for screencaps. Featuring the series "Haibane Renmei", the characters are, from left to right: Rakka and Kana. And yes, they're both girls. Have at it:

You know the drill: type up the funniest, wittiest, most original caption you can think of for the screencap above in the comments below. Also, if any of you would like some tips on writing a great caption, you can find those here.

Caption Battle: Fiiringu Raki, Gaki?

"It's that time again..."
"To reread the track list for Rock Band 2?"
"To realise how little our big planet is?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, playing up what we usually know about Mr. Ichimaru Gin: Uchiha1164!

Schiffer: Gin, come on. Your creepy smile has landed you the role of Koizumi in our Hare Hare Yukai performance.
Gin: Aw... I never get to be Kyon...

In second place, with a caption that wasn't even actually a caption but I'm a jerk and have considered it as such: BloodRedArab!

To many emo jokes already, I know, but... Look at him! (Emo... >__>)

And in the coveted first place, with a snappy little one-liner of doom... edisshort!

Gin: I need the happy stick more than you do!

This past week was freakin' awesome. Tons of great captions. Congratulations all of you; you've made an old man very happy today. But who cares about him, we've got caption battles to do!

Pulled from the old archives, this week we bring you a screencap from the ever-eclectic series Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu. Shown on-screen is Bonta-kun; more technically, inside the Bonta-kun suit is Sousuke Sagara. Have fun with it:
