"So you're an exorcist," Buriel mused, running his fingers through his hair. "I didn't think those existed." The two had quickly become chummy and were sitting on the rooftop of a bar. Though neither had purchased any alcohol, Roy was holding a bottle of water, slowly twirling his thumb around the plastic cap.
"I didn't think ninja existed either." Roy murmured, taking a swig from his bottle of water. "You're...interesting." He said, and then he spoke no more.
Buriel leaned back a bit, his eyes turning to the sky. "Thank you. I don't think that would have ended well, if not for you." The blonde gave him a curt nod, his fingers twitching. For a moment nothing but silence passed between them, and suddenly Buriel said, "There's something I've left behind. I need to go back to her."
At the sound of "something" being a person, Roy turned to look at him. "A woman?"
Buriel nodded a bit, his eyes crinkling at the corners before he looked at the ground far below them. "She probably hates me by now. I told her we needed to...take a break."
"You broke up with her." Roy concluded.
"Basically. But I'm...glad I did, even if there are some drawbacks." He leaned forward, his arms draped over his knees. "I didn't know who I was." He seemed to be talking to himself, he thought, or talking just to talk. He barely knew Roy, and that didn't matter to him. The casual conversation had suddenly gotten intimate, but strangers made the best listeners. "I wasn't sure of my feelings for her. I've changed; my soul is intact and I'm...'whole' but..." He shook his head. "When you lose yourself for more than eighty years..." A smile pulled at his lips. "I didn't want to drag her into it. Mood swings aren't pretty at all.
"Maybe I should have explained, though," he rested his chin on the palm of his hand, "because she may think that I left because of something she did." Slowly, he turned his head to look at Roy. "Did you know that I've always wanted to be some sort of doctor? A dentist would be nice." He scratched his head. "I'm sorry."
"Don't...be sorry." Roy's voice was barely louder than a whisper. "I chose to be an exorcist, but I was supposed to be..." He trailed off, his features becoming a bit pale.
For the first time in a long time, Buriel gave the young man a genuine smile. "You're supposed to be an exorcist, then. You chose it, yes?"
"I guess."
"Well," Buriel sat up suddenly, gently patting either of his thighs in resolve, "I suppose I had better head to Canada."
"Canada?" Blonde eyebrows furrowed slightly. "Why Canada?"
Buriel's eyes softened as he stood over Roy, his eyes crinkling as he smiled, though the blonde personally thought the shinobi would burst into tears at any moment. "I'm going to see her."
