A shot of the three cars is shown as the race finally begins. Each of the drivers shifts into the 2nd gear. The R33 and the Aristo blaze ahead while the FC is slowly coming up from behind. Michiko looks in the rearview mirror in confusion.
Michiko: He’s not catching up. Isn’t that supposed to be a fast car? I mean it is the Phantom after all…
Hiroki: Heh. I didn’t think that the Phantom FC would be this easy to lose. Looks like I was right to throw in the double turbine. With the double turbine in my car, I more than doubled my power; there’s no way I’ll lose tonight! The legend of the Phantom FC is over…
R33 Driver: Strange…he let that amateur get ahead of him. Why would you throw away your pride as a racer and let him take the lead? I know the FC has more power under its hood than that “bolt-on turbo” Aristo. What is his plan?
The screen cuts to the FC driver as he shifts into 4th gear.
FC Driver: That Aristo’s got some power under there. Looks like I underestimated my opponent. However, no matter how much power he has, all of it is sealed within only 4 gears. That’s the problem.
The cars go through a corner at blistering speeds. They barrel through and dodge traffic and just barely nicking the walls.
FC Driver: No matter what anyone says, the acceleration in a 4 gear car doesn’t compare to that of 5 gears. There is so much power and torque stored in just one gear that you’ll put a strain on your tires and lose grip. Not only that… (A flashback of Michiko in the passenger’s seat) he’s got a passenger on board. I’ll have to tread carefully…
All the drivers arrive at the Edobashi Branching.
The R33 corners with ease and makes a fast exiting speed (115km/hr).
The Aristo powers over, kicking his rear out too much. Hiroki manages to control it and blasts out at the end causing his tires to smoke.
The FC fakes to the right. The driver steers to the left, brakes, and downshifts to 2nd. He gracefully controls the car through the corner. Controlling the throttle, he moves towards the inside. Barely scratching his bumper, the FC then starts to push itself out of the corner at a considerably high speed (125 km/hr).
Scene cuts to Hiroki and the Aristo.
Hiroki: Almost didn’t make it through that corner. What the hell is going on?! My tires are starting to strain. I had no problem yesterday; what makes today any different?!!!
The R33 driver looks behind and sees that the Aristo is having some trouble staying on the road.
R33 Driver: I get it now. He stayed so he could monitor the Aristo. He saw that this idiot brought a passenger along for the ride. Bad move on his part. No matter how you see it, a little extra power will put more strain on your tires than you think especially cornering at these high speeds. (A shot of the FC is shown). You stayed behind to make sure that in case the Aristo gets into an accident, you’ll be there to help; ( hmph) playing “Hero”again.
The race continues on to the Chiyoda Tunnel. The R33 begins to push his car to higher speeds and looks in his rearview mirror.
R33 Driver: I’m not gonna waste my time here. I’m through with this!
He shifts to 5th gear and the exhaust makes a fierce sound as the R33 accelerates away from the Aristo and FC. Hiroki is in awe as the R pulls away and makes an exit off the highway.
Hiroki: No…way…so much power…
Michiko: I’ve never felt such power coming from a car before…
FC Driver: Sorry Satoshi; we’ll race another time. Guess it’s just me and the Aristo now.
The battle is now between the FC and the Aristo as the two of them enter the Chiyoda Tunnel. The R33 driver is finally revealed as Satoshi Himamura. He is in his mid 20’s dressed in a dress shirt and tie. He is leaning next to his car smoking in a parking area.
Satoshi: If that amateur hadn’t shown up…
There is a beeping sound from a pager. He looks at it and sighs.
Satoshi: Damn, I’ve got an early day today. Guess I won’t be able to stay and find out the result.
He opens the door and looks at the night sky.
Satoshi: Don’t do anything reckless. We’ve still got a race to finish, Takezawa.
