Thread of the Year

Since we're now getting close to the end of 2008, I thought it'd be appropriate to post a thread of the year rather than a regular thread of the week.

At first I thought this would be a very difficult task, because there have been so many fantastic threads throughout the year. But luckily the job was made easier for me recently, with the following thread:

ZOMGERMUFFINS, GUESS WHAT!!

The thread title promises something great and it really delivers - members Indi and Nathan have recently announced their engagement.

It's pretty rare that anything like this happens within our little community! Congratulations, Indi and Nathan.

Thread of the Week

I'm really pleased to be able to present another RPG as our Thread of the Week. It doesn't happen very often, but I think this time we have something really worthy of this.

The Chasers: Justice has a face

You really should check this thread out for yourself anyway, but basically this is a "costumed hero" RPG in a similar vein to famous titles like Watchmen (which I'm a big fan of).

What's unique about this RPG is not only the premise, but particularly the detail. Mr. Blonde (the creator) has created several mock newspaper articles, even going so far as to edit in his own imagery/photos and such. It's really very detailed and well-presented and it gives an air of realism to the whole project.

The sign-ups are still open (I've linked to the Auditions thread), so I strongly encourage anyone who loves writing fiction to take a look at this.

All I Want For Christmas Is...

Christmas List

I love Christmas. With the lights, decorations, music and all the fun of getting together with family and friends. It never fails to be an exciting time of the year. One of my favorite parts is getting little presents to give to the people I care about. But to do that, you often need a list, that's right... a list of what the person actually wants. Their Christmas list!

So with that in mind, what kind of presents are all of you hoping to get this year? How about in the past? I remember one year when I was given a little plushie dog. I was holding it and thinking it was so cute when my own dog suddenly started growling and took off to the other side of the room. It took me a moment to realize that she was growling at the plushie.

Anyway, if you don't have a list for yourself, what are you giving to others? Got someone special in mind this year?

Thread of the Week

Most Controversial Anime

So, is there an anime you've watched that you found highly controversial?

Admittedly I'm not really talking about things like sex or violence (given that copious amounts of either could be considered controversial), but what about actual subject matter? For instance, religion - a subject that quite a few series and films seem to explore on various levels.

And what do you, personally, find to be controversial in an anime? Is there any anime you have avoided watching or stopped watching because the subject matter was just too uncomfortable?

Thread of the Week

Have you visited the Anthology forum lately? It's where OBers post their fan fiction and discuss everything from comics to novels.

It is probably one of the quieter forums on OB, but even when at its quietest, there's always a dedicated group of members who continue to post their work there.

Until Proven Guilty: The Court Records of Ace O'Turney, Ace Attorney

One of the more popular threads lately has come from member Aceburner. I guess you could call it an OB parody type of story, but there's a whole lot more to it than that.

I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say that apparently some of our members are involved in enough dodgy activities that we do need a full-time attorney. Lions in movie theaters? Tsk tsk.
