Hi I'm Dranzerstorm
You may remember me as a regular contestant on the caption battle contest.
Welcome to Retro Retrospective, my world dedicated to the old guard of the Otaku world; expect some reviews of the old & obscure, and in-depth geeky knowledge with the occasional top ten and I now have a logo.

Little info about me
Well I'm British and I'm in to all things animated and nostalgia.
I've grown up with every cartoon going and have watched hundreds of anime.
Oh and to answer a question I was asked once, no I don't wear glasses in real life, I would wear Loke's sunglasses though.

Top 25 Worst Female Anime Characters

Okay, I don't remember if I ever did this kind of list but it's been long over due, so time for worst female anime characters, yes there is a male characters list it's just ten times longer and harder to shorten into a top ten.
Updated: Tomo Takino from Azumanga Daioh is now forgiven in favour of a much worst character.

25. Kirino Kosaka from Oreimo
Do I really need to give a reason? But for those who didn't see it lets just say she's pretty much patient zero of the little sister craze and gives otaku a bad name.

24. Nina Einstein from Code Geass
She makes me really uncomfortable, she's a racist with unstable emotions, capable of building nuclear weapons and her unhealthy obsession led to her pleasuring herself with a table.

23. Honoka Kousaka from Love Live
She is no different to about 50 other female protagonists and yet I fail to grasp her popularity.

22. Kohana Aigasaki from Magic Kyun Renaissance
Kohana is proof that not even female harem protagonists work, her problem is she's just a wilting flower ready to faint, I even call her anti feminist just for how weak a female she is.

21. Flay Allster from Gundam Seed
Turned against her boyfriend using emotional manipulation to bed Kira Yamato, while alot of this can be pinned down to loss of her father there's only so much you can get away with.

20. Petralka Eldant III from Outbreak Company
What is it with bratty monarchs? No where near as bad as Louise but in her case her voice was ten times worse rather than her actual actions.

19. Sarah McDougal from Love Hina
The series was worse for her appearance as she contributed nothing to the plot other than a distraction.

18. Kodachi Kuno from Ranma 1/2
Speaking of contributing nothing, Kodachi was the weakest for personality among the cast of females who were after Ranma, an extra character no one really asked for especially when her brother was a better show stealer.

17. Sakura from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Oh Clamp what did you do? You turned one of the best female characters in Anime history into a boring princess who can't do anything, plot or not, she derserved better than this.

16. Miyabi Aizawa from Great Teacher Onizuka
This is the case of manga vs anime for this character, she leads the crusade against all teachers in her class, pushing away anyone who fails her all because one teacher wouldn't notice her, the anime version is a bit more complicated but either way her actions as a bully are unforgivable, particularly when all the teachers before Onizuka were just trying to do their job and didn't deserve to be driven out.

15. Mizuki Takase from Comic Party
Anyone who knows my works knows how much I hate Comic Party and it's because of this character.

14. Haruhi Suzumiya from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Same reason as Tomo but way more annoying, I even wonder how the others put up with her.

13. Female Maze from Maze the Megaburst Space
She is basically gender swap Shinji Ikari. Even dresses like him.

12. Zazie Rainyday from Negima
She did absolutely nothing for 90% of the franchise and when she does do something it's not clear that it's even her, she speaks less lines than a monster of the week on Sailor Moon and finally, her role could've been done by a better character. What a waste.

11. Inaho Hitomebore from Master of Mosquiton
Annoying voice, annoyingly selfish, treats her beloved vampire like a slave and incapable of ever being liked by anyone, I'm glad she never gets a happy ending.

10. Reccoa Londe from Zeta Gundam
She joined the Titans by choice, who does that? Then she gassed and killed an entire colony. Then she dies blaming men for her bad choices. You are making worst Gundam characters look noble.

9. Yasuna Oribe from Kill Me Baby
She's that irritating friend who keeps annoying you to the point of snapping, the only reason she's not higher is because she gets what she deserves whenever her friend Sonya does snap.

8. Charlotte LinLin from One Piece
Big Mom is a terrible villain, in a series where the biggest villains can change the world in one battle, Big Mom is just a glorified psychopath with practically no respect for her ridiculous family and were supposed to judge her on the same level as Whitebeard.

7. Isanami from Brave 10
Probably the most pathetic female character to ever come out of a shounen anime in my entire reviewing career. She's pandering, she's a coward, she's useless, she can't do anything without Saizo and when she does do something, she goes all wilting flower and woobie on us. Just terrible.

6. Louise from Familiar of Zero
Worst tsundere ever, it's bad enough she smacks around Saito for the littlest hiccup but justifies it by using her nobility status saying that Saito is less than human to her, the only reason she's not higher is because Saito is dumb enough to still fall for her.

5. Kaede Sakura from Kampfer
She drove the entire plot of Kampfer by turning Natsuru into a girl, yet thinks boy Natsuru loves girl Natsuru. Lets not forget her horrible taste in stuffed animals and the fact that her villain reveal just destroys any dignity the show had.

4. Ringo Oginome from Mawaru Penguindrum
Falls in love with her older sister's former lover who is also her teacher in an insane plot that thinks that by doing this her family will come back together going as far as drugging and attempting to rape him and all she can say is crap about Destiny!

3. Malty Melromarc from Rising of the Shield Hero
My inspiration for this list, in the first episode she robs the main character of everything and gets him falsely accused of rape and still spends more of the series continuously tormenting him and yet this is considered a point of controversy in the anime community because of the whole funimation case. Saying that her comeuppance is so satisfying, spoilers she gets stripped of her name and title for her crimes and gets renamed Bitch.

2. Akito Sohma from Fruits Basket
Yes she counts despite the first anime ending before the reveal of this fact. I get that Mental Health is a complex emotion that can hurt people unintentionally but Akito's is so extreme that the line between unintentional and outright bitch gets crossed, the other characters did nothing to warrant her aggression, it made that part of the manga really hard to read, worst thing about it is some fans actually like her. Why?
The anime doesn't do her any favours as there is no talk of her backstory so she just comes off as a villain without a cause, which is even worst.

1. Ume Shiraume from Ben-To
But this is by far the worst female character ever. She beats up main character Sato for no reason not even for comedy, she abducts other women to be her dress up doll and play thing and the anime gives her a full episode that is 50 Shades uncomfortable where she seduces comedy relief Hana Oshiroi against her will in the most cringy yuri scene in anime history. I had a hard time returning to ecchi anime after this. Worst thing about it, she gets away with it; everyone else at least gets punished.

Top 100 Worst Anime 40-31

Coming closer to the end, were almost there.

40. Kampfer
It could've worked but it's poor taste in fetishes not to mention some of the worst characters in anime makes this a shameless title.

39. Sword Art Online
This series abandoned a good idea to continue a power fantasy that got worse and worse as the seasons rolled by.

38. Demon King Daimao
A series that rips off better anime and does it poorly.

37. Love Live
Overrated piece of garbage devoid of any original ideas.

36. Midori no Makibao
An ugly gonk series devoid of dignity with it's unfunny attempts at constant toilet humour.

35. Yume De Aetara
One of the most frustrating romance anime I've ever watched.

34. Vampire Knight
The anime equivalent of Twilight.

33. Blood-C
This title is only going to get worst, it's world is so crappy, Coronavirus looks better in comparison.

32. Twinkle Nora Rock Me
A laughably bad unfinished anime series featuring some hilariously bad animation.

31. Sailor Victory
Any series that makes misogynists have a good point is a serious red flag.

Top 10 Most Embarrassing Transformation Sequences

Transformations are the staple of anime culture, from the days of the pioneering Cutey Honey to the current day Pretty Cures, the transformation sequence is always a highlight of any anime series should it have one, however some shows have sequences that are not so good, these ten anime highlight the most embarrassing transformations in anime.
There are no honorable mentions but may be some at a later date.

10. Corrector Yui
While nothing is embarrassing about the costumes per say and the sequences are mostly normal, each one has a facial expression that kind of tells a different story like they are enjoying this a bit too much.

9. Negima Neo
For context this is what I call the alternate Negima. Now you have three different forms. A magical one with great power, a cosplay form with less practical powers and a chibi animal furry form with no use at all that reduces your mind to a childlike state and you can't control which form you get.........HOW IS THAT PRACTICAL?

8. Kampfer
Kampfer doesn't look so bad at first, you get some cool weapons, you sometimes can use magic and your personality may change to help you fight, but if your a male, you will be force changed into a female whether you like it or not. Not made any better when you become the fan service of the show.

7. Is This a Zombie
How do you add insult to injury when you are already a zombie? By being made to become a magical girl where your main powers give you such a frilly costume that gets more frillier the more you power up, the only thing I can really salvage from this is the fact that your weapon is a chainsaw.

6. Moldiver
Having the powers of Superman in a handy geeky cassette tape (That's what it looks like) is pretty handy, only one problem, you need to be naked to do the transformation, depending on the version you can't choose between male or female forms and there's a time limit that will leave you naked at the worst possible places. Yeah those powers don't seem so fancy now.

5. Kill La Kill
The power of the uniforms grant great powers, only problem is they look very gaudy and some make you look like a hooker and some are even alive. Ryuko Matoi's revenge has very little dignity.

4. Ultimate Girls
You are made to grow into giant size and then your clothes start fading until you are butt naked for the world to see, fighting phallic monsters wasn't bad enough. Although it would make for a very awkward episode of Power Rangers.

3. Pretear
While the costumes look relatively underwhelming for a magical girl show that's not the main issue here, the costumes are basically your male allies, so put that into context for a second, you are wearing pretty male characters as your costume and Himeno's reaction first time around is pretty much how any girl would feel being told that.

2. Agent Aika
While this anime doesn't have much dignity to begin with, Aika's powered form is activated by being groped by a sentient corset that can make her super powered, I'm surprised it still gave her clothing, considering the rest of the anime. (Review coming soon)

1. Jungle De Ikou
The dub summed up this transformation, "the sleaziest transformation ever seen" and they are 100% correct, I won't describe the full details because it's uncomfortable so I'll sum it up. 13 year old girl becomes an adult girl with very little clothing and boobs the size of beach volleyballs, that along with the quote will tell you everything, and this anime wasn't even a hentai.

Kampfer Review

Now I'm going to review a few anime that have the theme of Gender Swap, now there is a reason to this which I will bring up as I go through these reviews; as I'm away from Thursday night to Monday night this will not be a week long feature. Starting off the reviews is Kampfer.

Natsuru Seno is a boy with an obsession over the school's beauty Kaede Sakura, but his life ultimately gets turned upside down when a grotesque stuffed animal gives Natsuru a bracelet that forcibly transforms him into a Kampfer, female warriors fated to battle each other using a wide variety of abilities such as guns, swords and pyrokinesis that Natsuru uses, and yes I said female warrior as Natsuru is now a girl as a result. Along with other Kampfers, Shizuku, Akane and Mikoto, Natsuru tries to work out why they all got dragged into this battle with Natsuru ending up becoming a harem protagonist to all the other girls.
I find it ironic in this situation that the most popular girl in the school is a guy who's been transformed into a girl.
First off I have a lot of issues with Kaede Sakura, I'm not a great lover of psycho lesbian types if viewers remember my worst girls to have in a harem list a few months back. Equally the other characters don't make it any easier to like this series. So going back to the elephant in the room that is Natsuru, being honest this show didn't need the Gender Swap theme in the first place, it's so focused on giving us a yuri/fan service show with the amount of situations Natsuru gets into that the main point of the show is kinda lost in the wave of vivid colorful ecchiness.
The gratuitous German doesn't make this show any easier to understand, nor does the strange taste in stuffed animal mascots. No dub which I'm thankful for because it would be terrible.
Final Verdict: The plot may have worked if they stuck to it but with unlikable characters and focus on ecchiness over action, it just falls into a disarray that never recovers.
