-John-
After the briefing from Aaron Mandy and I went back to our rooms and got ready to head out. We had to go back to the house that we once left behind to go and find a chain that had appeared there. I looked down at my stuff. That was the last place where I saw Vanessa and Jason. I wanted both of them back. It’s been five years since they were sent into the abyss.
“C’mon John you’re slower then I am.” I heard Mandy chuckled.
I stood up and put my Katana through its loop and put my guns in its holsters. “I have a feeling that we’re going to find one of them today.” I said walking up to her.
“You say that every time we go on a mission.” Mandy commented walking away from me.
“This time is different.” I answered.
“You say that all the time too. Just give up.” By that statement I could tell that she had already had a couple of drinks.
“You know you should stop drinking. It’s bad for you.” I said.
“No it’s not.” She retorted and looked away.
“Yes it is and it makes you act like Vanessa.” I answered remembering when Vanessa would be in one of her moods.
“Don’t compare me to her.” Mandy ordered.
“Your right at least Vanessa didn’t give up.” I retorted and walked past her.
“You know how I feel about Jason, but Vanessa I gave up on a long time ago.” She said and I didn’t look back at her as I continued to walk.
“Lets make a bet then if I kill the chain first then you stop drinking.” I mentioned.
“And If I kill it first you have a couple of drinks with me.” She said.
“Fine.” I said stoping and turning around.
“Alright so if you win I’ll stop drinking for a week.” She smiled.
“No for good.” I frowned.
“Okay a month.” She corrected.
“No I mean for good.” I answered.
“Fine.” She sighed and then ran past me.
“Seriously your running?” I chuckled a little.
“I’m going to win this bet.” She replied and I shook my head and jogged after her.
“I’m going to win and you know it.” I smiled catching up to her.
“No your not.” She said and ran into the old Vessalius house.
I sighed and walked into the old mansion. It was dim and damp in the house that use to always be busy and moving. Everyone trying to make their master happy. That was my life now I’m hunting chains and hoping that one-day Vanessa and Jason would come back from the abyss. When I walked into the ballroom there was another presence with me and I instantly put a hand on the hilt of my katana.
“I know your in here.” I said walking in further.
It was quiet then it sounds like a body hit the floor and I instantly turned around. Mandy came running into the ballroom and brought out her whip. Looking around I saw something in the shadows.
“What is it John?” Mandy asked looking in the same direction.
“It looks like there’s a body over there.” I said walking over not taking my hand off of my sword.
When I got closer to the figure I noticed that it was a girl and then I realized that it was Vanessa.
“It’s Vanessa.” I said as my heart raced looking at her unconscious body. I instantly ran over to her and picked her up so that her head was resting on my legs.
“Where’s Jason?!” Mandy asked excited looking around.
But I shook my head. “I only saw one body. I’m sorry Mandy.” I apologized.
“No, no it’s alright.” She said then turned towards me. “Get Vanessa out of here and back to head quarters. I’ll take care of the chain.” She smiled.
“You sure?” I asked her as she helped me get Vanessa onto my back.
She smiled and nodded, “Besides this means I win the bet by defalt.”
I mumbled under my breath at her, “Be careful and come back alive.” I said then ran out of the mansion with Vanessa on my back.
She was back. Vanessa was finally back from the abyss. I was so happy. I just wanted to get her back to headquarters to let her rest peacefully in a bed. I just hoped that Mandy would be alright on her own.
