Chapter 46

I stretched as I followed Vera up the stairs. She turned off into her room first and I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth before going to my own room and closing the door behind me.
“So why did you open Vera’s door while she was getting dressed?” I sighed not bothering to turn on my light as I went over to my bed.
“I didn’t mean to. I was just passing by and had my hand running along the wall and I just hit the door. I’m still not use to having so much energy, I’m sorry,” Tony appeared floating above my bed in a sitting position. The moonlight that my eyes were adjusting too was lighting up my room as I crawl into bed, “I’m surprised that she didn’t notice your freckles till now. You have them everywhere.”
I chuckle, “It’s the small details that take longer to see. You should know that considering you’re an artist too.”
“I know, but I’m sure I noticed them right away,” He nodded crossing his arms over his chest.
“That’s true, But I don’t mind. I just hope she’s not upset with me. I went to the treehouse without her,” I sat there in bed with the blanket over my legs. “I know I was told to come alone but still…and just what was with that ball of light?” I muttered more so to myself then to Tony.
“Why don’t we go to the library tomorrow?” He offered.
“It’s Sunday. I don’t think the library is open on Sunday’s, is it?” I asked looking over at him.
“I can’t remember. Could always ask Vera if you two can take a walk so you can see their hours. I think it’s still run by the same family from back then,” He said tapping his cheek with his pointer finger, “You should sleep, you look exhausted.”
“I just want to get back to my old self with fitness already. I hate this being tired after spending only a few hours on my feet and going for a short jog. It wasn’t even a run,” I groaned flopping down onto my back, my head landing on my pillow.
“You’ll get there, it’s just going to take time. Watch you’ll be able to get back to your old time’s in no time. I know you never give up, so why would you start now?” He stated as I looked up at the ceiling.
“I know. I’m still trying to get Vera to go on jogs around town with me. I know that exercise is hard doing it by yourself, so I want to show her that it’s fun when you do it with others. And I need to get her stamina up if I’m going to teach her how to swim. That was something that my body didn’t forget,” I chuckled.
“Oh, have you already gone swimming?” He asked as I closed my eyes.
“Yeah, but it was to save Vera,” I sighed relaxing my body, “She can’t swim. The first time I had to save her I was still a ghost. I had to possess her body for a short period of time to get her out of the water.”
“You can do that?” He questioned.
“You can go into someone’s head to,” I hummed slowly drifting to sleep.
“How do you do that?” He asked.
“Figure it out, you’re smart,” I mumble before falling asleep myself.
Everything is white. There’s white halls on both sides of me. “Where am I?” I asked out loud looking around, “It looks like the school.”
The ringing of the school bell confirmed my question. Kids flooded into the hall that I was standing in the middle of and started walking past me.
“Is that kid new?” I heard one girl’s voice whisper as they walked past.
“I think I’ve seen him around town before. But, doesn’t he live in the creepy haunted house?” The other girl answered.
“Oh yeah, with that weird new girl.”
“What with this kids eyes?” I quickly turned my head to a group of boys that were staring at me. I couldn’t make out any of their faces, though.
“He’s a fucking freak is what he is.” The one in the middle said and place his hands in his pockets and leaned forward, “What cha’ gonna do about it four eyes? You come to pick up your freak of a girlfriend?” I turned away from the group and started walking away, “Hey! I’m talking to you, you fucking freak,” Look at me when I’m fucking talking to you,” I felt someone grab my shoulder and pull me back. I’m slammed into a glass display case and the guys fist grabs the collar of my shirt and presses his knuckles into my collarbone. “Not as tough as you look four eyes now are ya?” The kids smirk that was plastered on his face fell as his face looked away from my and over my shoulder then back to my face. He did this a few times them grabbed my shirt with both hands and pulled me back from the glass and rammed me harder into the glass. I heard the glass crack as my head bashed off the glass. “What the fuck is this? Did you come back from the dead or some shit? Why the fuck, do ya look exactly like the kid in the memorial?”
My heart started pounding against my chest. I don’t know what to do. How do I answer this question?
“Break up this fight this instant,” I look over and my eyes widen. It’s a teacher, but She’s also a girl from when I was in high school. I can’t place her name, though. She stared at me for a moment and then walked over to us. She was saying something, but I couldn’t make out what she was saying. Suddenly, everything went black around me and I fell backwards onto my back.
“Where did everyone go?” I asked sitting up.
“Ha! I did it!” I look over my shoulder to see Anthony jogging over to me.
“Tony,” I sighed in relief as he slowed down to a stop behind me.
“What happened to you? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” He commented and then blinked a few times, “Don’t respond to that statement.”
“I’m okay. I was just having a bad dream before you got here is all,” I answered turning around so I was facing Tony.
He sat down next to me and pulled his legs up to his chest, “Do you want to talk about it?”
“I don’t even know where to start with it to be perfectly honest.”
“Well, where did it take place?”
“It was at the school. But, how the school looks now, not how it use to back when we were in high school. There were these kids that I didn’t know there and I have no idea why I was there. I’m assuming it was probably the end of the day because I’ll be picking Vera up when she gets out of school and one of the kids mentioned that. I was getting the same comments from these kids like I did when we were in school. Being called a freak, and four eyes, of course, why should I expect high school students to be any different since we were in school. Then there was a group of guys that were picking on me. I decided that it would be best to just walk away from them, but who was probably the leader of the group didn’t want that to happen. He grabbed me and slammed me into a glass case. It’s the one that was for when I died. And the kid noticed the picture in there and back at me. Then he proceeded to ask why I look like the kid in the memorial. Before I could answer a teacher came and broke up the fight. Then everything just went black and disappeared. Then you showed up.” I took in a deep breath after explaining all of that.
“Wow, that’s a lot to take in. It sounds like a bad dream. But, at the same time, how do you explain that you came back to life by some magic voodoo thing and what not,” Tony stated not really helping with the situation.
“That doesn’t help Tony,” I sighed and flopped down onto my back. The scenery changed to the roof on the house.
“Nice, we haven’t done this in a while,” He looked around.
“I know, but this is where we would always go to talk,” I shrugged looking up at the fake sky, “So, how do you like Vera and her family?”
“They’re really nice. I could get use to them being around really quick. Vera’s a sweetheart too. And a bit sassy. She would have fit right in with use to nut jobs if she lived at the same time we did,” We both laughed.
“That’s true,” I smiled and looked back over at him, “You know, you could pull off being Vera’s older brother, you look a fair bit like her. Even though you two aren’t related at all.”
“Vera has black hair and green eyes, though.”
“Her natural hair color is brown. Also, her dad has blue eyes, so, you would fit right in,” I smile at him and kicked my thigh with the side of his foot. “I like not being able to see through you.”
“Too bad it’s only in your head,” He sighed looking at his hand.
“You know what I miss from being a ghost?”
“What’s that?”
“Being able to phase through walls and float,” I got him to laugh at my statement.
“It is nice,” He agreed. We stayed quiet and enjoyed each other’s company. He stood up and stretched, “I can feel you waking up. I’m going to get going.”
“Okay, I’ll see you in a bit then,” I sit up and smile at him. He gives me a small wave and then disappears, leaving me alone on the roof.
I wake up and the light from the window makes me close my eyes quickly.
“Good morning,” Tony greets, I crack my eyes open to see a blurry See through Tony floating above me. I stretch my hand out from under the cover and find my glasses on my night stand and get my glasses on.
“Morning,” I grumble and sit up.
“I see your still active as ever when you wake up in the morning,” Anthony chuckled and I ran my fingers through my hair.
“I normally feel better after I do a morning run or exercise. Otherwise I just feel sluggish,” I groan, “You know that. How many times did you wake up to me being gone because I went for a run?”
“Then why don’t you wake up Vera and take her for a run with you?” He shrugged, “Just a suggestion.”
“That’s not a bad idea. If I can get her up. Sometimes she can almost sleep till noon, depending on what time she decided to go to bed after she said she was going to bed,” I chuckle going over to my dresser and digging out a pair of shorts and found my tank top. All my clothes are old compared to the clothes that I see kids wearing now a days. But they are still good. Now all I have to do is get Vera up.
