So, apparently Mark Wahlberg was talking out of his ass in that interview he did. He spoke like he had already nailed the role of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie.
"Just what was that puzzling David O'Russell quote, referencing a "family dynamic" in the Uncharted movie, all about, I asked Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond at a recent press event. He laughed. "First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell," Richmond said. "He actually called us up and was like, 'I don't know what these guys are talking about.'" And Mark Wahlberg isn't anywhere near to being confirmed to play Nathan Drake either -- it's just Hollywood scuttlebutt, apparently. Still, I dutifully told Richmond that the Joystiq Biomass had chosen, and Nathan Fillion has our vote. Message received, Richmond responded."
So okay. All that news I was posting is now getting bandaged up. I like that. Means there's hope for us yet with this movie. Beyond that, lots of nice news about the Uncharted 3 progress.
. . . so SERIOUSLY! Nathan Fillion! Get on it, movie people!!!
As for good news number two (which is ironic because this news actually came out before the above news) . . . video clips of Uncharted 3 in action! Sure we're a year away, but damned if I'm not blown away with their progress so far:
Things worth caring about I noticed from the above videos:
Crazy nice animations now. I had to rewind when I saw that first skip-step around the first dead guy.
Really pretty fire effects - makes me excited for how they'll do sand/desert.
Multiple-enemy brawling.
"This an inner ear thing?!" Series continues to be hilarious on the fly.
Wallpaper curling up from the fire.
Environment burning and going brittle and stuff.
Snazzy melee fighting that involves stealing a guy's gun and beating him to death with it.
Everything looks and sounds GORGEOUS.
So yeah. Uncharted. 11/1/11 cannot come soon enough.
(After a few hours of playing the game... I hear a line. Then I check stuff online...)
By the way, Uncharted 2 is a freaking glorious game. It's paced so well, and you just want to keep going and going . . . Everything about it is just perfect.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is only two weeks away from release, and I'm pretty much salivating. Reviews are starting to come out now that the embargo (or whatever) came down . . . and as one guy put it, everyone knew it was going to be good, but no one expected it to be this good!
It's hard to imagine that any game could live up this kind of hype. At the same time, though, the more I see of it, the more I'm willing to believe.
There are two main things that I absolutely love about this game. The first is the characters, how brilliantly they're acted, how well-developed they are, and how they interact with each other. For example:
The other thing I love, is that even during the gameplay, you get such a sense of Drake as a character... and if that's not enough to turn heads, the insanely cinematic gameplay will. Example:
"Don't you assholes see the helicopter?!" indeed . . .
. . . . . holy crap, this game is gonna be the greatest game in the history of ever . . .
. . . which reminds me, I need to hurry up and find that darker grey shirt before Halloween . . . . .
