When I was painting this, I always had those classic Christian paintings in my head. I do not doubt that I was influenced by those oil paintings when I did this piece. In fact, I didn't want to imitate the look of those paintings; I wanted to capture the feeling those artworks often evoke. I suspect that when I did the clouds, however, the surrealists were in my head.
This is painted extensively with acrylic paints, with some watercolor paints as well. I thinned the acrylics with water and painted with multiple layers. This was the only way I could get the look that I wanted to, especially when working with those multiple cloud layers. When I almost completed this creation, I had to retire one of my liner-brushes, since I used it so much. It served me well.
One more thing. The idea for this came about when I was in chat. I happened to be talking about clouds for some reason (they inspire me), and I suddenly decided that my next creation will have clouds in it.
