Sixth Spark:
[In Eduardo’s room after dinner. He is laying down on his back, eye patch and shirt off, relaxing while the cat sleeps on his chest]
Dia: [walks in drying her hair with a towel and some loose-fitting clothes on] Well, it looks like Eddie hasn’t been tossed overboard. Thank goodness. And by my reasoning, you two are getting along just fine.
Eduardo: More like we have a truce. [scratches the cat’s ears]
Dia: [flops down on her back next to him] So, you going to tell me what you find so interesting about the ceiling or am I going to have to play the guessing game?
Eduardo: [pause] I’m just thinking.
Dia: About…?
Eduardo: [sits up and Eddie falls off of him only to lay down next to Dia] It’s nothing.
Dia: [sits up and timidly takes Eduardo’s hand] I know you don’t have to tell me but… If you want to talk, I’m always here to listen.
Eduardo: … My mother.
Dia: Hm?
Eduardo: I was thinking about my mother. Does she approve of me and what I’ve become? Is she proud? Is she happy?
Dia: … I can’t say for sure, but… I think she’s proud of you. You’re a kind (when you want to be) and honorable man, even if you have a terrible dark side. Yes, I think she’s proud of you and happy, too. However, I think she’d be even more proud of you if you forgave your father.
Eduardo: You know I can’t do that.
Dia: [tightens her grip] You can try.
Eduardo: … Yeah, I suppose… [pause] Hey, Dia.
Dia: Yeah?
Eduardo: [looking away] My hand’s cold. Stay like this, okay?
Dia: [laughs under her breath] Of course. [leans against him] And I’m kind of cold, too, so it’s your job to keep me warm.
Edaurdo: Hmph.
Dia: [smiles] And you call me stubborn.
Eduardo: Just shut up and do what I told you to.
Dia: [smiles, gently] Yes, sir.
