Chapter 1: Ken is that you?
I heard a purring in my ear as my Auntie’s cat Griff was my usual morning alarm clock for school. “Good morning to you too Griff.” I laughed a little as she meowed at me and then hopped onto the floor.
I got up and brushed some of my blue hair out of my face. I was always picked on because of my blue hair. Of course so did my best friend. He was picked on for his glasses and hair cut that his father forced him to get. We had each others backs. We tried to stick up for each other, though most of the time I was more sticking up for him. I know he tried, but I just couldn’t see him get hurt. Over the years I actually came to like him more then a friend.
I looked over to my dresser where the bear that Ken gave me before he left sat. “Two years today…will you ever come back Ken? I wish I could have told you how I really felt before you left but I didn’t realize it until I saw you leaving in your fathers car as he took you off to military school…” I muttered to the teddy as I walked over to my dresser and picked it up. I hugged it close to my chest before setting it back on my dresser top and pulling out my dark blue and white three quarter sleeve shirt with the red akatski clouds on the left side, black jeans and black ankle socks.
“meow.” Griff meowed and I smiled at her.
“Alright Griff I’m coming.” I laughed a little and followed her out into the kitchen and give her the kibbles that I normally did then I went back to my room to finish getting changed.
“I wonder how much Ken has changed in these past two years…” I wondered as I brushed my hair. Then again I’ve changed quite a bit too. I actually filled out and have some curve to me now. I let my hair grow out and now it was down to the middle of my back and I could put it up different ways even though I mostly put it up in a ponytail. Though I only went form being five foot when he left to being about five foot four inches. But I didn’t mind my height. I put my hair up in my normal ponytail and went and brushed my teeth before grabbing my bag and slipping on my shoes to walk to school.
“Rain do you want a ride to school?” Alexy shouted from the passenger window in his brothers Dart.
“Sure thanks you two.” I smiled and ran over to the car. I heard Amrin unlock the doors and I hopped in the back. Amrin and Alexy are twins but Alexy has blue hair and Amrin has black hair, also Alexy is gay. He’s amazing with picking out outfits and has quickly become one of my best friends since him and his brother came here. Amrin on the other hand I’ve started to like him we have a lot of the same interests and it’s so much fun talking about video games with him. These two and Lysander really helped me through my hard times especially when I went to Ken’s parents house to ask his father if he could send the package I made for Ken for his birthday. I wondered if he ever got my letters that I tried sending him. Of course with what Amber did the day he left with that text I’m hoping that he doesn’t remember it. That text she sent still haunts me to this day. I want to apologize to him if he remembered it. But at the same time what if he doesn’t believe me…that’s always worried me.
“Rain what’s wrong?” Alexy asked me snapping me out of my thoughts.
I smiled at him, “It’s nothing really, its just been two years since my best friend the one that I told you about had to go to military school.” I answered.
“Then that settles it, since last year you couldn’t get his father to send your gift to him this year We’re going to have you over and play video games to get your mind off of it.” Amrin said as we pulled into the school parking lot.
“Thanks guys, but I promised my aunt that I would cook dinner tonight before she got home from work. Rain check?” I asked.
“Well then you have to go shopping with me after school today then. Shopping always makes you happy.” He mentioned.
I laughed a little, “Alright Alexy I promise I’ll go shopping with you. I’ll have to be back at my apartment by 4:30 though.” I answered.
“So you can make a date with Alexy but not with me?” Amrin teased me as we all got out of the car.
“Hey even you know that one can not simply play a half an hour of video games.” I giggled.
“Fair enough.” Amrin smirked grabbing his bag out of the back seat and locking the car as we walked into the school.
I separated from the twins to head to my locker before heading to my first class. “I almost, ugh…” I heard Amber say then she stormed off. I was a bit confused with what was going on. She didn’t have her minions with her so what was going on?
Oh well I shouldn’t bother with her anyways she’s always picking on me to begin with so why should I even care. I know that she’s Nate’s little sister but still she could use an attitude adjustment. And I applaud whoever made her so flustered. I made it to my locker and was having trouble opening it. “Ugh come on you stupid thing I don’t think that I got anything caught in you this time.” I groaned as I tried to pull at my locker to get it open. It finally popped open and I ended up stumbling back into someone.
“Are you okay?” It was a boy. My face instantly flushed and I looked up at who it was. The voice sounded familiar though I couldn’t place it. He had messy brown hair and amazing green eyes.
“I’m so sorry.” I apologized, “I didn’t mean to my locker was stuck. Are you alright?”
He just laughed a little, “I’m fine really, I was about to ask if you needed any help.” He said.
I looked him up and down he looked so familiar, like I knew him. “Don’t you know who I am?” He asked with a bit of a smirk on his face.”
I wandered around him and then stared at him and it finally clicked, “Ken?” I said and his smirk turned into a genuine smile.
“It’s nice to see you again Rain.” He smiled.
“Oh my god Ken!” I said louder and hugged him tightly. “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too.” I smiled when he said that to me.
“You are so much taller now and you let your hair grow out. What happened to your glasses?” I asked.
“What you don’t like me wearing contacts?” He asked.
“No, no it’s not that it’s just…wow you look so different. A good different.” I stated.
“Can you call me Kentin for now on please? I don’t want to be called by my kid nickname anymore.” He said and I nodded.
“I can, I’m sorry if a slip up a few times.” I mentioned making a mental note to call him by his actual name.
“When did you get back?” I asked.
“Last night actually.” He answered.
“We have to catch up.” I said and the warning bell rang. “At lunch.” I laughed sheepishly as I quickly grabbed my things from my locker.
“Sounds good, we’ll talk at lunch.” He said and went in the other direction.
I was so happy that he was back…but does he feel the same way. By his expression it seemed like it but I’m not too sure.
