Chapter 8: Birthday Party Surprise

It’s been so long since I’ve had Terra Cotta that I forgot how good the food was here. I feel like it’s only gotten better since the last time I had it.
“So why the sudden change in outfit for our date? I wouldn’t have cared if you were in your normal clothes.” Rain stated after sipping on her drink.
“Oh well…like you I was taken shopping too. Alexy was with me. I really didn’t want to go shopping but I didn’t really have too much of a choice.” I answered.
“I’m sorry that Alexy can be so pushy with things.” She laughed sheepishly.
“Well other then the fact that he wanted me to get a pair of skinny jeans I was able to get him to settle with me getting these jeans instead.” I added.
“I’m sure you would look sexy in skinny jeans, even though they don’t breath.” She giggled which made me blush a little.
“Thanks Rain.” I smiled at her.
“Of course. But you look handsome in this. It’s not a huge change in style which I think suits you along with your army pants and how they suit you too. I was surprised to see that Alexy was able to get you to by some bracelets that went with this outfit.” She added.
“Well I was tired of him complaining about the simple outfit that I choose to get so I let him pick out bracelets that would go with it.” I admitted and my phone buzzed on the table.
I noticed that it was from Rosalya and I was going to pick it up and check to see what was up, but Rain grabbed my phone first. I felt my heart drop and I felt like my mind was going into panic mode.
“Stall her a bit longer.” Rain read out loud and looked at me suspiciously. “What is this about?” She asked.
“I-it’s nothing, it’s nothing just a joke.” I laughed sheepishly trying to take my phone back from Rain but she pulled it out of my reach since there was a table between us.
“It’s not nothing since your stuttering. I’m going home to see what’s up.” Rain said and stood up. The waitress came back with my change and Rain left.
“Keep the change.” I said to the waitress and then went after Rain. “Come on Rain let’s go to the park for a bit. I’m sure everything is fine.” I stated catching up with her.
“No I want to see what’s going on.” She objected and moved a little faster.
“It’s nothing really let’s go for a walk.” I suggested.
“We are walking, we’re walking home.” She stated as we rounded the corner to the apartment building.
I was running out of time. I needed to do something to stall her. We got into the apartment building, “Rain wait.” I said grabbing her hand and pulling her away from the door to her aunt’s apartment. I pulled her in close and kissed her. I felt my heart pounding against my chest as I felt her stop fidgeting and kiss me back. Her lips had the slightest taste of skittles to them. It must have been from her chapstick because I don’t remember her eating any skittles.
I pulled away from her soft lips and I wanted to go back and kiss her again. Her cheeks were pink as her eyes opened to look up at me. “Kentin…”
“I’m sorry, I should have asked first.” I instantly apologized but I couldn’t get my heart to stop pounding.
“No, no it’s fine really. I…I liked it. You’re a good kisser.” She smiled shyly looking down at the ground.
“Was that skittle taste your chapstick?" I asked her and that made her blush a deep red.
“I-it is. D-do you not like it?” She stumbled over her words.
“No I do like it.” I felt my phone vibrate against my back from it being in Rain’s hand. I reach back and slipped my phone out of her hand and brought it up. It was Rosalya again. We’re good to go whenever you two are. She sent and I text back we’ll be at the apartment in a few minuets then stuck it back in my pocket and pulled Rain away from the door.
“Was that Rosa again? What’s going on?” Rain asked confused.
“There’s a little surprise for you but it’s not ready yet so we have a few minuets before we can go in.” I stated. That was mostly true we could actually go in whenever now but I wanted to spend a little bit more time alone with her before we went and spent the rest of the day with everyone else.
“Oh what’s the surprise? Is it a party? I told Rosa I didn’t want a party if that’s what it is.” Rain started to ramble which made me smile and she noticed that I was looking at her and she blinked. “Is there something on my face?” She asked,
I shook my head, “No there’s nothing on your face, and I’m just looking at you.” I answered.
“Oh so um…Next weekend is an anime convention and I was wondering if you wanted to go with me.” She blushed. “I was going to ask you later today, but I didn’t know when so I figured that now would be a good time to ask you about it.” She nervously pushed a lose strand of hair behind her ear. “I’m sorry I’m rambling.” She laughed sheepishly.
“Yes I’ll go with you to the convention.” I answered and her eyes lit up and she jumped up and hugged me.
“Thank you! Thank you so much. Oh I don’t know how this birthday could get any better.” She exclaimed.
I do and I think I’ll wait till later to ask. “We should head to the apartment so you can get your surprise.” I stated setting her down.
“Okay lets go!” She pulled me back down the hallway and opened the door. Poppers popped and everyone yelled surprise.
Her eyes lit up and she ran over and hugged Rosalya and Violette. Amrin, Alexy, Leigh who I didn’t really know but I met him but he’s Rosalya’s boyfriend, Lysander, Iris, Kim, Nathaniel, practically everyone was here to celebrate Rain’s birthday.
They all did an amazing job with setting everything up. On the table were everyone’s presents to her. There were streamers everywhere and birthday signs all over the place along with a rainbow of colors of balloons that littered the floor and ceiling. We played twister, don’t let the balloon touch the floor, Balloon sandwich where we had to pick partners and race around holding a balloon with our backs, and we played some soccer with a squishy softball and Amrin and I taught everyone how to play hackie sack.
After cake and presents everyone started to leave one by one. After about three hours of people slowly leaving. Leigh, Rosalya, Rain’s Aunt, and I were left to help clean up the mess.
“Thank you guys for helping clean up.” Rain said as she folded up twister and put it away.
“It’s not a problem besides we helped set everything up so it’s only right if we help clean up the mess.” Rosalya stated.
“Where do you want your presents?” Leigh asked Rain.
“On my bed or desk is fine, thanks.” Rain mentioned as she grabbed a stool and went back into the living room.
“That’s not all that safe why don’t you let me get the streamers.” I offered.
“Na I got it.” She told me and climbed up on the stool but she was still having a hard time reaching it.
“Rain let me do it. I can reach.” I insisted.
“And I said I got it.” She objected grabbing the streamer and ripping it down. “See?” She smiled triumphantly at me.
I chuckled and picked her up and took her off the stool. “You missed a spot.” I said.
“Hey now, no body is perfect.” She shrugged.
“Can I ask you something?” I asked changing the subject.
“Sure what’s up?” She questioned with some curiosity in her voice.
I took her hands, “Will you go out with me?” I asked praying that she would say yes.
