I posted this in the dA forum too. Advice?

I just started college and am determined to be in the graphic design field. I am working on a game with my boyfriend who is the programmer of the game(I do the graphics). Since we're partners in this, I'm not paid until the project is done and sells. I'm fine with this as it'll be something to add to a portfolio when I look for other jobs.

Which I did. I applied for a character designing job for a small company overseas--it'll be mostly computer and paypal-paid. I submitted samples of the work I'm doing for the other game. The response was polite praise and questions about how I should be paid. This is my first application to a job of this kind. I've read online of people charging $15-35 per hour starting out. I don't know if that seems too much to charge, but my brother who does 3D character commissions suggested I charge $25 per hour. Is it just me, or is that a bit much?

Besides payment advice, if you have any advice on this career please share your wisdom! =)

Graphic Design?

So, because I want to work in advertising I've decided to switch my major to Graphic Design next semester. If you work in that area or have taken classes that are in that major, could you give me some advice? Like, what should I expect, what are the classes like, what I would learn? Specifics, not generally. Even some of your experiences in the field would be great! =)

College and Stuff

Except for my essay screw up, which I fixed(I was supposed to email my prof my essay draft Friday, but FAU's email is foreign to me so I didn't attach it properly; I ended up sending him a blank email. I recognized the problem today and emailed it properly this time. He accepted it, thank goodness!) everything's turning out ok. My Sociology prof, Gina, said she can write me a letter of recommendation to FSU--which is awesome because she was a graduate student there AND she was a prof there for several years! I'm trying to transfer there for the Spring term.

As far as commissions go...I need lunch money to put into my account(I'm so broke right now, most of my funds all go to food). Again, want anything customized(like shoes, bags, clothes, etc) or want me to draw/paint you something, I'm all for it!

I'm just waiting here in the library for my mom to pick me up. My last class ended at 3:30 and she doesn't get out of work 'til 5:30. I bet now my dad regrets not letting me get my license those couple of years ago; he gets so pissed when I need to get to school or leave. He keeps expecting me to have all this work to do, but honestly...compared to my IB and AP classes, this is all cake(mmm cake). My work is all done. I've read ahead. AND I have pretty easy classes to begin with.

Ok, KaidaFaye out!

Back Online

Been away for a while, been busy with school and etc...I GRADUATED!! Next stop, college!

So, my goal for this summer is to finish a 48-50page installment of my comic G33K!! Hopefully will get a new laptop within in the next 3 weeks, so maybe I'll get shite done, you know? I've been using my mom's for the past year.

I need to go get comicking supplies too:
Multiliners
new sketchbooks, at least 8"x10"
Copic markers
boxes of mechanical pencils
packages of Magic Rub erasers
new triangle rulers

Honestly, the Copic markers are a dream. I've never used them and they're super expensive considering my wallet, which right now is currently nonexistent, excluding the $10 for gas money. And if my parents go through with the laptop graduation present, I'll have really no need for any of the stuff I mentioned. I want to get thisreally bad, but it's about $1000 and the keyboard that comes with it is a bluetooth one, and I want it to be detachable/attachable so it'd act like a regular laptop in class. Thisis the idea I have, except this tablet isn't really a PC, to me it's just a giant Android phone slash IPad competitor, which again, isn't a PC. The Asus Slate I want actually is Wacom, so it works well with Photoshop and everything. And since it's Windows, I could use it for school...it's just be easier for me if it had a detachable keyboard. Still on the laptop search for a fallback tablet convertible laptop.

Well, I'll go do stuff now. Bye bye!! I wonder if anyone really pays attention to my shite anymore, oh my...hah.

Degree in Comics--WHAT?!!

* Mood: Eager
* Listening to: the keys stick together as i pound on the keyboard

I've been up since 7am, don't ask me why 'cuz i dunno either--it's Saturday DX. A msg to Mo, Cal, and Sandro--dad has my laptop and my phone, so there's no use trying to contact me this weekend; I'm using his computer while mom and dad are out flea-marketing...his keyboard is disgusting...the control key is stuck down from something caught in between the keys and the down arrow key is just stuck...and ther's coffe stains everywhere and ew I'm just gonna stop talking about it.

Anyway, I was in art class yesterday and Kevin and I were going through these books from art colleges. I happened to stumble upon a college I've never heard of--SCAD--Savannah something...ANYWHO I happened to stumble across some photos of people getting their comic on in the section called SEQUENTIAL ARTS. I was like "what?" and actually read the whole section, which most people don't do because they're browsing just to look at pictures or to waste time. I got really excited and started talking to Maria about it and she said "go for it" so I went home and jumped on the computer to "research" (actually, it was around 8 when i finally got on the computer since he took my shite last night right when we got home at 6) what colleges offered it...so far, I've only found SCAD appealing =(

The field of sequential art encompasses graphic novels, comic books, comic strips, children’s books and storyboards for animation and film. Sequential artists combine words and pictures to form entertaining and effective narratives.

That's from the SCAD website.

I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED. I didn't know this existed!! I know I'm gonna major in art, but really? Comics?? What do you guys think? And for those of you in college already--help me! I'm already a junior! >_<
