Tales of Okuri Tale 4 of 7 Sake and Swords

“Hey, Inuko.”

She turned to him. That was the thing about Kiba. The devil you had to speak of, but just think of Kiba, and bam, he’d be there. The half demon sat there with his back against a rock. He wore the usual smile on his face, and today he looked unusually…cute.

“So….Ryota and Maiko…hitched….just like that, huh?”

“Yeah. It still bugs me. I can’t picture anyone else getting so committed….so quickly.”

“Not even me?”

She giggled. “Ok, maybe you. But you’re not normal.” She turned and began to walk away. Kiba took a massive leap to land beside her and kept pace with her.

“But isn’t there more to it than just love? I mean, she could just be in it for the wealth and power. Okuri told me that most women were like that, and that I need to watch out for them.”

“Your brother must’ve had terrible experience with women. I’ll admit, though, I’ve seen girls like that. Horrible little wretches.” Inuko saw a bird in the sky, and it reminded her of some friends that had chosen to walk down that path. “As soon as they got what they wanted from one guy, they’d just move on to the next, leaving him with almost nothing. Like the baby of a bird who laid her eggs in another’s nest.” She turned her head to Kiba. “Of course, some guys do that too.”

“I haven’t forgotten about that ex-boyfriend of yours, Urashima Izawa.” said Kiba. “I heard he’s already moved on to another fake girlfriend.” Inuko rolled her eyes. Why did Kiba feel the need to rub this in her face? “I actually feel kind of sorry for him. He can’t spend all his time with the one he truly loves, and one day he’s going to get caught.”

Well, if Kiba wasn’t just full of surprises.
