70 - 61
70. Deltora Quest OP 3 - "In This Life"
Last year, this opening made it as an honourable mention. This year, I was determined to have it actually land on the list. While it isn't anything special from an objective viewpoint, I still stand by the thought that it's the opening that reflects the original Deltora Quest books the most, bringing something a little more dark and emotional to the series, instead of the happy, shounen-y other openings it had. And, considering how much the Deltora Quest books mean to me, of course I had to put this somewhere.
69. Blue Exorcist OP 2 - "In My World"
Cheers to the second season (finally) coming out in 2017! That's something I would have never guessed would happen, but I welcome it deeply. I seriously enjoyed Blue Exorcist as one of my first shounen anime, and this opening is part of why. It's probably the first opening where the lyrics struck me. And, even years later, it still stands as a pretty solid opening in my book.
68. Persona 4 OP 1 - "Sky's the Limit"
While the importance of this anime has faded a little bit with time, it still means a fair amount to me. The animation still captures me, and the lyrics still remind me of both the dreams that my friend group share, as well as the dreams I have personally.
67. Ajin OP - "Yoru wa Nemureru kai?"
Side note, I apologize for the low audio quality for video of the TV Version. Trust me, it makes me cringe, too.
Ajin was my favorite series of Winter 2016. Something about the series hooked me, and this opening is a part of that something. The lyrics add so much to the anime. Not only that, but the song is catchy enough that whenever I listen to the song, I simply must sing along. The animation is nothing to shake a stick at, either, as it's one of the things that hooked me on so much to this series.
66. Free! ED - "Splash Free"
I remember when I had made this song into a line dance. You know why I did so? Because this song/opening has the right amount of fun needed for a line dance. The attractive boys are fun to look at, too. And the fact that the voice actors sing the ending - which is a thing you'll probably seen pop up a lot in this list - is another reason why I love it so much.
65. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders OP 2 - "Sono Chi no Kioku"
TV Version (er, a bit of spoilers in this version)
Many people think this is the best OP of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure... and I agree with them. It has arguably the most darkness, the most power, and the most hype out of any of them. Not only that, but the animation - and the symbolism behind the animation - is amazing. This opening is full of style and full of strength - the perfect combination for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
64. .hack//SIGN OP - "Obsession"
A few months ago, I rewatched this series with a couple of my good friends. It was a sweet reminder of how good this show really is, and with that, of course, comes this opening. The song is just like all the .hack//SIGN songs - amazing, and oddly catchy. The animation fits the feeling of the series, with things like torn clothing and glitches. And, of course, now the memory of watching it with my friends is the icing on the cake.
63. Boku no Hero Academia OP 1 - "The Day"
TV Version | Full Version | Metal Version
Granted, Bungou Stray Dogs was my favorite Spring 2016 series. But despite that, this OP was the song I found myself singing to myself the most. It took some of the best notes from OPM's opening to make a beautiful, hype-filled opening, the kind that you can't stop yourself from singing along to, even if you don't know all the Japanese lyrics. Still, there's that one great line you know you'll hit every time - "THE DAY HAS COOOOMMMMEEE!!"
62. Gangsta OP - "Renegade"
This is one of the few songs I can listen to over... and over... and over again, without hardly ever getting tired of it. The song is that entertaining and catchy. Even beyond that, however, is the gorgeous visuals of this opening that showcase the two very attractive male leads (Nicolas and Worick), but also give off the hardcore vibe that the show has, which all in all, leads it to be a fantastic opening.
61. Paradise Kiss OP - "Lonely in Gorgeous"
You didn't think I would leave this list without including something from my favorite romance anime, did you? Seriously, though, I used to hate sewing before I watched this anime. But then it introduced me to the elegant art of designing - and, indeed, sewing - a beautiful outfit. The anime, and especially this opening, just screams "haute couture," and that's what makes it so good. This opening seriously just makes me want to go find an idea, some cloth, create a glamourous outfit, and, of course, flaunt it afterwards.
