KyraChan's Top 70 Countdown 2

50 - 41

50. ef - a tale of memories OP - "Euphoric Field"

TV Version | Full Version

I really, really love it when openings have words somewhere in the visuals. And this opening has plenty of that. I had so much fun pausing it and doing my best to read the story in the background. Not only that, but it has another thing I love - a change in the opening at a key moment in the anime. For this one, it changed on the last episode. That version is also easy to find on Youtube, but I'm not linking it due to spoiler reasons :F Still, this opening has so much I love, it would have been a shame if it wasn't on this list somewhere.

49. FLCL ED - "Ride on Shooting Star"

TV Version

I originally wasn't going to include this, but when I was watching random OP/ED's on this website, and it came up, I just... I couldn't leave it off. Everything about it was so much better than I had remembered it, especially the visuals. I was enraptured the entire time. Even watching it now, it's still so much better than I had remembered it a week ago. I'm really glad I caught it, and that it ended up on the list, like it deserves.

48. Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider ED - "Nana Hitsuji"

TV Version

Hooray for Vimeo. Copyrighted content aside, this is a fabulous ED. I wasn't sure if wanted to put it on here, but I couldn't shake it off. It just hits all the notes it needs to - a beautiful, sweeping song, gorgeous visuals, and an old-computer-esque tone to match the show's intellectual atmosphere. It's a wonderful ED that works so well with its parent anime.

47. Hellsing OP - "The World Without Logos"

TV Version | Full Version

The original Hellsing anime wasn't that good. Yeah, I said it. But it did have some good things in it, and this opening showed that off very well - Seras' struggle with becoming a vampire, Sir Integra's bad a**ery, but most of all, the style it is. It's hard not to sing along to this song, and feel 100% cool while doing it. It shows off well what kind of vampire Alucard is, and that's what makes it so great.

46. Hibike! Euphonium OP - "Dream Solistar"

TV Version | Full Version

This opening wasn't even really on my radar until, like the FLCL ending, I just happened to rewatch it. And, to be honest, listening to the music and seeing all the instruments... I got nostalgic ;~; for those who don't know, I did band/marching band all throughout junior high and high school, so it's little surprise that an anime about exactly that would be so close to my heart. And I guess that applies to the opening, too - I simply can't ignore an opening that shows the joys of being in band so well.

45. One Punch Man OP - "THE HERO!!"

TV Version | Music Video

When I talked aobut Boku no Hero Academia's opening, I mentioned just how hype-filled it is. Now, it's time to raise the bar. I don't think anyone who watched this show in fall watched opening and thought "Hm, that's a pretty boring opening." I mean, it was built to get your blood pumping, to the point where you're trying to sing along, even if you have no clue what you're saying. XD But there'll be no missing the line that we all can nail after the first few bars of the song, the hypest hype that ever hyped - "OOONEE PPUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCHHHH!!!!!!!"

44. The Tatami Galaxy ED - "Kami-sama no Iu Tōri"

TV Version | Full Version

Now for the ending song of one of the most praised anime all time. Despite not having overly-complicated animation, it still creates a visual masterpiece with the smooth animation and the way it moves with the music. The music's great, too - creating a groovy song that's hard not to dance to. If you listen (or look up) the lyrics, it tells a sad, yet cool story that's hard to forget. Overall, it fits very well for the anime.

43. Saraiya Goyou OP - "Sign of Love"

TV Version | Full Version

When I looked up this opening to see how high it would make this year's list... I teared up at it, and immediately knew it would be at least a fair ways in. The message in it is so beautiful, so inspiring, that it fits well with the caring and gentle nature of the show. But it's the lyric that gets me everytime that's the most inspiring - "愛することに無駄はないよ" or, to translate, "Loving is not pointless."

42. AnoHana OP - "Aoi Shiori"

TV Version

Why do I hardly see anyone talking about this anime anymore? I mean, yeah, I watched it years ago, but it still carries a very special place in my heart. It captures the feelings of childhood - and the sorrowful feelings of losing that childhood - so well. And the opening is no different. It shows so well what each character is feeling, as well as their desire to reconnect. It's a gorgeous, beautiful, nostalgic opening, and I love it, even if the anime its attached to has falling a little further into obscurity.

41. Noragami Aragato OP - "Kyouran Hey Kids!!"

TV Version | Music Video

Both of Noragami's openings are amazing. But the second opening just brings that much more style and energy in it. Everything's stepped up, including the action. Everytime I hear that first line "Tonight, we honour the hero!" it immediately gets me pumped. And, I won't lie, part of why I love it so much is because of song's music video. It's all so colourful and electrifying. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find some batteries to eat.
