Chapter 12

“Vera dear who’s clothes are these that are in the washer?” I heard her mom call out from down stairs.
“They’re some clothes that I found in the attic while I was going through some of the boxes today.” She answered getting up off the bed and wandering over to the door to poke her head out of the room.
“They’re rather big. They look like old boys clothing.” Her mother called back.
I felt my eye twitch a big at the word old as I floated above the floor. “They’re good clothes. There’s nothing wrong with them.” I said a little louder then I meant to as I crossed my arms.
I looked over at Vera when I heard her chuckle a little bit. “I know. They are boys clothes. I’m going to use them as night clothes.” She called back.
“Alright hun. I’ll put them in the dryer for you then.” Her mom stated.
“Thank you.” Vera said and then she pulled her head back in and shut the door. “No what was I doing?” She said more to herself then to me.
“We were talking about the stories that you write.” I answered her anyways.
“Right!” She smiled and wandered over to her bookshelf to look for them.
“Your mom seems nice.” I stated.
“She is. She always tries to stay strong and positive.” Vera answered.
“Where’s your dad?” I questioned and it fell quiet as she stopped dead in her spot. I saw her hand quiver from where it rested on a book on the bookshelf.
“He’s in the army…he’s out on a tour right now…”She replied, her voice a bit shaky.
“Oh…sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you.” I told her.
She shook her head. “No, it’s alright, you didn’t know.” She tried to smile at me but I could still see the sadness in her eyes.
It fell silent between us for a few minuets then I spoke up.
“Oh Vera I never told you. Also you haven’t been outside to look around the yard yet it seems.” I said to get her attention from the books and what we just talked about.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She asked a bit curious but was still a bit hurt from the conversation.
I smiled “Just go outside to the back yard I’ll wait there for you.” I said then disappeared from her sight.
I waited by the window before to see what she would do. She stood there in her spot by the bookshelf for about a minuet a bit confused by what happened but then she decided to actually head to the door.
I smiled and phased through the window and went up and over the house to get to the backyard since my window over looked to front of the house. I went to the cherry blossom tree that we had in the back yard and landed on one of my favorite branches. It was only mid March so the buds were green. They weren’t going to be at the peak of the bloom for about another month yet.
She looked a little out of breath when she got to the back yard. “You look a little tired. Haven’t you ran in a while?” I asked her and got what must have been an evil glare as she straightened up.
“What did you want me to come out here for?” She asked coughing a little to clear her throat.
“This is a cherry blossom tree.” I told her and she walked up to it.
It was a very old tree. It was huge when I was a kid. I loved the tree. “It’s blooms peak in April. When that start to bloom I want you to be able to climb up here and watch the stars with me.” I told her.
She looked up at me from the ground in shock as I smiled to her. “Z-Zac…” My name escaped her pink lips.
“You’re the first girl that I’ve actually be able to have full conversations with, without becoming scared or embarrassed.” I mentioned and she seemed surprised. I smiled wide down at her. “So practice getting up onto this branch okay! I want to watch the stars with you when the cherry blossoms bloom.” I said.
