“Get up!” yelled my sister.
I jumped awake and got out of bed. I ate some cereal and went upstairs to brush my teeth. Only to realize I had bed head. TERRIBLE bed head. My hair looked like a cartoon character got shocked. Yeah, you know the hair I’m talkin’ about.
I jumped into the shower and soaked myself again. I sprang out, dried myself, and put on some clothes. Jeans and a V-neck. I had to fix my hair because it was getting to the point where if you didn’t put it a certain way, it looked like a nasty mop. I hastily, brushed my teeth and got a neon blue and green striped jacket on. Probably one of the hottest jackets you’ll ever lay eyes on. I found my backpack by the front door and grabbed it.
I got into my hippie van and cruised out of the drive way. It was 7:35. I was earlier than usual. But as tired as a newborn baby. So I took my time. There was no reason to speed or find shortcuts. I got to school at 7:48. That was perfect because Hannah arrived a bit later than me. I am a sophomore in high school and Hannah is a senior. I had a sufficient amount of friends. I’m pretty normal at school. I’ve been successful at containing the fact that I save each of these kids at least once every two years from demons.
What’s so perfect is the fact that no one would expect it. I’m invisible. I get really good grades. I could get a 4.0 GPA but my father said not to because demons could find me easily. I don’t participate in sports or the theater just so I don’t get exposed. Perfect plan right? No. I can’t run for The class president. I would win. I couldn’t do sports even though I would be a very good player. I love to act. Can’t do that either. A demon walks in to a play with me in it and the building could go up in flames.
So it’s not the greatest. I can’t have a girlfriend either. Rumors would spread and I would be found. Which sucks. I have my eye on a particular girl. Her name is Kelsey Michaelson. She’s everything I can’t be, so that’s the worst choice imaginable. But I can’t resist her. We are good friends too. So it could get a little awkward if I.....
Why would I think about her? I can’t have her. It’s not worth it. I walked to my locker and grabbed some books for my math class. I ran through the door and sat down just as the bell rang. Safe. For now.
We had a substitute today. Her name is Mrs. Dodson and from the ten minutes I spent with her, she’s a big jerk. I started my assignment and got five problems done before she called me out into the hallway. I walked out and went to talk to her.
“You killed one of my clan.” she said.
“Ohhhhh crap.”
I was already sprinting. A fireball flew right past me, destroying the glass window in front of me. I jumped out the window and grabbed every branch to slow my fall. I hit the ground with a roll and started running off campus. The teacher was in hot pursuit. (No pun intended). But at least I got her out of school.
Bad news is that I never got a fire extinguisher. So I’m screwed. I ran across the street into a restaurant. I took the fire extinguisher and ran outside and doused her. She was covered in foam and was still attacking me. Now that she was vulnerable I had to take her down. How? I smashed her in the head with my fire killing friend and hit her again. I didn’t know how I could kill her. I needed a sharp object. Or an all destroying explosion. There was a gas station across the street. So I dragged the slippery naked demon to the gas station and propped her up against a pump. I ran away from it and cast a burning spell on the gas station.
A orange fist exploded through the roof of the gas station, sending pieces flying at me and everything else. I jumped to the side as part of the roof was hurtled towards me. It crashed into the ground and broke into smaller pieces, finally coming to a stop. I started running back to school. I got back to my classroom to find everyone gathered around the window that was shattered.
“What happened?” I asked.
“Didn’t you jump out the window?” a student asked.
“You think I would jump out the window?”
“No.” replied the student.
“Then who did?” I asked.
“We don’t know.”
The bell rang and I gathered my stuff up to my next class, biology. I was quite early and I happened to know someone named Kelsey in the class. She sits right next to me. We talked in between our teacher’s lectures.
