Well, I'm just making it with this challenge! O: And here we had 3 months to do it lol. XD I guess I just stared at it for 3 months. >>'
For this I did something I've never done before! A b/w manga scan coloring. O__O Yup, I've never colored a scan before that wasn't vectoring. ^^; I did cheat a little by adding the majorly dark texture on top, but still. It fit. I used this smexy scan of Cesare. I've had it saved for YEARS and never used it. Bam, I used it. XD This manga (Cantarella)is really great...I just wish that the mangaka finished it. Right? She didn't finish it yet....or...maybe it was finished and not released here in the US? I honestly am not sure. XD SOMEONE TELL ME. Cause I don't remember which volumes I have. >>' Lol! I better look. Cause it says there's 12 volumes, and I might only have 10 or 11. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Anyhoo, I was just going to use the b/w scan and then add some gradients here and there to add lighting. I started out with the yellow glows from the candles and such...and I liked how that looked. Then I was like, "Hmm, which textures do I have I can use?" I used one from the Vintage II collection (got it on dA, too lazy to find it again)...I fooled around with erasing some of it away from Cesare's face. THEN. Then I attempted coloring. O__O Just regular old brushes on photoshop. Didn't do a whole lot with shading and whatnot...but I think it looks good. I hated it at first, but it's growing on me. XD The typography was annoying as heck, so here is a textless version. It ended up better than it was at first though. >>'
Dedicated to Oli-chan because when I think of or see colored manga scans like this, I think of her. She's like the master of this technique. <3 I don't remember if you have read Cantarella or not, Oli-chan, but if you haven't, you should. XD Enjoy!
