Resisting the urge to roll her eyes Lilly walked past Jaden to the other window. It was her favorite spot to ignore her mother’s lectures and she could feel one coming on.
“I don’t now how many times I’ve told you….” Her mother began when the butler, James came in.
“Lords, ladies, dinner is served in the dining room.” He bowed formally and left as her father stood up from his chair. Patting his growing stomach he put out his hand to her in his usual way.
“Jaden, can you believe she’s going to be an adult soon?” Her father asked. She turned her head to look at him.
His eyes swept over her absently as he followed her mother out of the room. “Yes.” The agitation grew some more as she followed with her father.
The meal was magnificent and after three courses and allot of taking about Connor and how much he had grown, then the usual, lands and crops and weather everything went quiet.
“So why are you here anyway? You haven’t come around in three years.” Lilly asked breaking the silence and making him turn his eyes to her.
“Lilly!” Her mother scolded. “You’re being rude.”
She feigned a look of contrition. “Sorry.”
Jaden sat back in his chair. “No, it’s ok. I think it’s time you know why I’m here. Don’t you agree Bastian?” He turned his attention to his friend who had slumped slightly looking as if he wanted to disappear.
“Yes Bastian.” Sabine chimed in sounding firm. “Tell her.”
