“You… have NO idea what I am going through ok?! You have all you want at your fingertips! While I have to fight back the monster inside of me to NOT kill every single human in this town!”
Stephen just smiled and I punched him right across the face.
“This isn’t a joke!” A growl escaped my mouth with such ferocity the house shook. Then it hit Stephen, I was being serious.
“Dude, just calm down, I was just teasing!”
“TEASING?! You little fag… why didn’t I let you die there?! Back in Scotland… I SHOULD’VE JUST LET YOU DIE!!”
Kiley’s eyes widened as I said that. I’d never regretted creating Stephen before. And Stephen looked hurt, and I was truly a monster now, through and through. I shoved him a little bit more and the wall collapsed.
“Stay away from me.” I growled at him as I jumped through the window.
Soon I was running… faster than I ever had before. And I was full of fury and if I saw Stephen’s face at all for the rest of the night he wouldn’t live to see tomorrow. I stopped at the cliff edge and I looked down. If only I were human, I could jump off this cliff and actually die.
So I jumped. Knowing I would land perfectly, all bones intact and no blood or bruises, I didn’t care. I landed with a light thud and only a little bit of dirt on my shirt. Just then it started to rain and I could smell everything more clearly now. I could smell the mud, the undergrowth, the grass and even the water vapor in the air, cool.
I stared up into the sky hoping for some kind of resolution to my miserable immortal life that just kept circling hell. Her face kept running through my head over and over and I could tell each little eye-lash apart. Then I remembered her sad face. And it was a sadness that was new to me, heartbroken, I’ve never felt anything like it.
And I remembered how easily I could cast aside the burning in my throat, the yearn for her blood, just vanished in a heartbeat when I was set on making her feel better. Then I realized… maybe I didn’t have to stay away from her! Maybe I could live near her in peace without hurting her or thinking about her blood! Okay the second thing and the last thing were an impossibility so scratch that.
I decided to go back to the house and smooth it over with Stephen. Georgia was sitting there with her head in her hands and William was pacing around the room deep in thought. Stephen wasn’t there but Kiley was so I guessed that he was probably in his room wondering why I had almost killed the poor guy… “Hey where’s Stephen, guys?” I asked no one in particularly.
Georgia got up and wrapped her arms around me. “I thought I had lost you too Marcus! I didn’t want both of my sons to be gone!” “Whoa mom, slow down. What are you talking about? Where is Stephen?” She didn’t let go of her grip as she talked to me. “He ran out after you had left and told Kiley not to follow him. We don’t know exactly where he went.” William placed his hand on Georgia’s shoulder and she let go. “Marcus why don’t you go after him, you did create him, and you are very close.” I shook my head. “No I’m still angry at him, a little, so I don’t want to take any chances that he won’t be here tomorrow.”
