Price of Freedom 2

Alice was 20 years old. She came from a broken home and had no sibblings. She worked at that reaturant in order to pay for her schooling. She wanted to be an elementary school teacher. She said children are the future and that the only way to make sure the future would be better was to teach them how to be better people. Love, kindness, patience, and understanding. That was the future she wanted. Where everyone was equal, and helped each other. Not for gain, but just because it was the right thing to do. She was beautiful...a ray of light in a dark world. Always golden and smiling.

Leo had come into her life at a crucial moment. She had been lonely and in need of a friend. A coworker had mentioned buying a pet to her. Apparently it was love at first site.

She adopted Leo from a shelter. He had been born there. His mother died giving birth and they were going to put him down. They told her they didn't have time to waste taking care of a runt who would probably die anyway. She had been horrified. She didn't understand how anyone could be so cruel as to kill an innocent baby. I smiled when she said that. We weren't lower creatures to her. We were simply another life that was to be treasured.

Alice took him and bottle fed him every 2 hours. She made sure he had a warm bed, and nice cloths. Everything he would ever need or want. He was spoiled and only had eyes for her. She was his owner, his mother his everything. He never left the apartment so she was his whole world. He was very protective of her. Alice told me he would be jealous of me for awhile. But eventually he would get used to me. Looking back it sure did take him a long time.

He gave me many days of headaches. While Alice was at work it was my job to watch him. Leo made sure it was always a full time job. Meowing over every little thing, and threatening to tell Alice if I did something wrong.

I don't remember how long it took exactly, or when he perception of me changed. But I do remember the first night he fell asleep on my lap. We had been watching tv and waiting for Alice to come home. I must have nodded off, because the sound of her unlocking the door is what woke me up. I went to get up to greet her, when I noticed the weight on my leg. Leo had crawled over and laid his head in my lap after I fell asleep. I remember thinking how innocent he looked as I brushed a lock of white hair from his face.

When Alice saw us she just smiled, and cried. I picked him up and carried him to his bed. He was so cute, and I felt happy.

When I came out of his room she was waiting for me. Time had gone by so fast. Weeks into months. I knew what feelings I had for her, but I thought she would only me as a cat. What I wanted was wrong in the eyes of both hybrids and humans. I wanted Alice. I wanted to make her mine and live happily forever with her and Leo. I didn't want to simply be...her pet. That night I learned that she wanted all of that as well. Afterward we had just laid there together and soaked each other in. My scent mixed with hers. Her tiny body held in my arms. She was so fragile. So beautiful. I never wanted that moment to end. But...like everything in my life, it was taken away.
