Tales of Okuri Tale 3 of 7 Eliminating the Competition

Okuri shouted, in a voice loud enough to be heard by and catch the immediate attention of everyone in the fortress, “I’VE WON!!!! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, I’VE FINALLY WON!!!!!” He then laughed in a wicked and victorious manner. “IT’S OVER!!! I’VE WON!!! I AM THE SHOGUN!!! I AM UNQUESTIONABLE MILITARY AUTHORITY!!!!” He laughed again, this time chuckling to himself. “NO SAMURAI CAN DEFY MY WILL, NO CIVILIAN STAND IN MY WAY. WHY DON’T I SEE YOU ALL BOWING?!?!”

And with those words, all the military personal (save the Imperial Guard, who simply stood aghast) pushed through the crowd and bowed before the mighty Okuri. Kiba and Akamaru lowered themselves to one knee, and Okuri’s grin was beginning to make his face ache. “Samurai and Daimyo of the Land of the Snow, I am here to command you, to keep you from slaughtering each other, to free you from the Emperor’s order and taxes, to…”

He abruptly stopped talking when he felt a blade go through his back. Okuri swung his blade to cut his assailant vertically in half to the waist. But as he turned to see the halved face of his attacker, he was surprised and confused….he had been attacked by the headless body of Isamu! This distracted him so much, that he did not even noticed the other headless bodies moving until they kicked him in the face. He flew backwards but landed softly on his feet.

This shocked everyone. Thoughts raced through Inuko’s mind. How was this possible? Okuri had severed their heads, but the leaders continued to fight! Did they continue to fight as ghouls? Were they creatures that could live without their heads? Then Inuko paid closer attention to how the weapons were being wielded and came to the conclusion that….

Those certainly aren’t humans anymore, Kiba thought to himself. No, no humans could move so perfectly, so gracefully, so energetically, with those injuries even if their heads were still attached. The bodies were the same, but manipulated by something else. Perhaps his older brother was….

I’m fighting the weapons themselves, Okuri thought. His opponents didn’t have technique that good when they had their heads attached, so it couldn’t be anything else. He inhaled deeply, and infused the air in his lungs with his chakra. No matter, I’ll just shred up the bodies so the weapons can’t be wielded against me. He exhaled, and spat out countless wind blades. His opponent’s bodies were torn to shreds, like tall and narrow wooden buildings in a catastrophic windstorm.
