Tales of Okuri Tale 3 of 7 Eliminating the Competition

“Now,” Okuri said, “run along, get your little Imperial Regalia…..I can’t become Shogun if the fight isn’t fair.” He watched as the high priests brought out the sacred objects. Laughing to himself, he carried on. “Oh, who am I kidding? Even with those weapons in your hands, this obviously isn’t going to be a fair fight! These weapons will do you no good, and I will win regardless!”

Suddenly, as the weapons were placed in the hands of their masters, something unpredictable happened. A blinding flash enveloped them, and when it faded, 3 mighty warriors stood. Each one of them had been dressed with armor, and restored to their youth.

At this, even Okuri widened his eyes in surprise. He shook his head in disbelief and looked again. No, it was real. He snarled in displeasure. “Figures you old bags would have some trick like this up your sleeves. Well, it’s not like it’ll make a difference!” He leaped forward to attack with his bare hands, but was intercepted by the Kusanagi. Although it looked like a very painful injury, only frustration showed on the warrior’s face.

He attacked again, only to be blocked by Katsuro’s mirror. The shiny metal and glass seemed to reflect aggressive intentions the same way it did images, and Okuri felt the strength of his own blow. Not even wincing, he moved forward for a third time, only to be hit by a hailstorm of the Emperor’s sacred beads.

Falling to his knees and hands, Okuri bled and panted heavily. Inuko was quite surprised. How could it be that the half demon who contained the Seven Tailed Wolf (judging by his tails, she knew it had to be him) himself was on his knees after only 1 strike from each weapon in the Imperial Regalia? Regalia….it should be called the Imperial Arsenal with weapons as powerful as that!

Isamu stepped forward, Kusanagi raised, ready to cut off Okuri’s head. Inuko felt her heart beat faster, but it wasn’t for the massive warrior. It was for his little brother, Kiba. What would happen to him? Crushed by the loss of his older brother, he would spend the rest of life on the run, if he was lucky enough to escape death by Kusanagi. He’d be completely alone in the world except for Akamaru, for surely the others who had chosen to follow Okuri- Osamu, Ichiro, Ryota and Takeshi –would be killed on the spot. What about the people who had associated with them but had not known or participated in this grand scheme? And those who had been unwittingly duped? Would they be punished? Compensated?
