Tales of Okuri Tale 3 of 7 Eliminating the Competition

Nervously, she looked to Kiba. Expecting to see a face of a broken spirit or a crushed mind, she instead saw a smile. Confused, she looked to Okuri and saw that he was smiling as well. The facial expressions on the 3 leaders said suggested that they thought this fight was over. But it wasn’t anyway close to being over. In fact, it had only begun.

“Insolent fool!” shouted Isamu. “You thought you could destroy every piece of our government, every foundation of order, every segment of the harmony in this nation! But you underestimated the strength of unity!” The Shogun brought his sword down, but Okuri caught it single handedly. The old man, although his body was young, trembled in fear. “Wh-wha-what!?!?! This is impossible! You didn’t even use your lead hand!”

Okuri thrust his favorite fist forward, and Isamu flew backwards. His limp body crashed into Katsuro, who tumbled to the ground. The Emperor took a step forward to perform an offensive technique, but he tripped over Katsuro. The 3 men had been rendered clumsy fools by their unpredictable opponent.
A sadistic smile came over the face of Okuri, the same way a wolf would grin when it had it’s prey pinned down and was about to sink it’s fangs in. In the crowd of spectators, an assured feeling of immediate danger being passed was rapidly replaced by a sense of panic and fear. Fear that the good forces of order and civility would not triumph over the wicked forces of savagery and chaos. Fear that all they had ever believed in was about to be swept away before their eyes. Fear that they would be next. Fear of the unknown. Fear of fear. Screams and shocked gasps were heard throughout the audience. Mothers held on tightly to their children, families and lovers tried to unite themselves. A few elders even fell dead from heart attacks.

Perfect, Okuri thought. The more chaos and fear I create, the less likely it is some idiot will interfere. He breathed in deeply, as if trying to inhale the horror and pandemonium he had created, then he spoke. “I’ve been waiting to kill you for several years, Isamu. I also planned to butcher Katsuro right after you. And the Emperor…it’s sort of a fantasy of mine to kill him.” He assumed a more canine stance, and continued talking. “Now, I get to do all 3…..on the same day! I’m going to savor killing you….”
