Dead End

Buriel just about went on a bender when he heard gunfire.

He assumed it was from the “phantom killer”- obviously that sicko was somewhere in the room- and immediately began calculating the trajectory of the shot to where the man (or woman) probably would have been standing or sitting and realized that it would have taken place across the balcony from where he was and immediately began to seethe. He’d already fled the scene; Buriel knew that if he tried to catch him now, he would have a very small chance of getting to him before he completely cleared out of the building.

“Kuruse!” He hissed, and, grabbing his rifle, he rushed towards the exit, pausing only for a moment to wonder about Danielle and her safety. How are the rest? I can see this far but- Curiously, he glanced through the lens of his lens (state of the art, with night-vision setting) to see the ballroom floor.

Two people were most definitely dead already; people had begun to stampede and no one knew where the other was going, and the party-goers looked like dizzy, drugged ants from where Buriel was standing. It would be funny if it wasn’t so grotesque.

Danielle was already out of the door, taking up her skirts as she ran. Probably going to change. Buriel’s eyelids lowered slightly. That woman… He sighed a bit endearingly. She wouldn’t give up, would she? Even when her life was really at stake…

That hole in the wall was just a few meters off, but it had most certainly been aimed as if the culprit had been thinking of them (an assumption Buriel made through his many years of shinobi work) though why, he was unsure. If he’d wanted to kill them, they most assuredly would already be de-

His eyes widened a bit. Of all of the people that would consider killing both Soshi and Danielle, only one would be hesitant about it (other than Buriel himself, of course) and that was the man who seemed to be quite close to both of them, and the brains to end either one on a whim.

Could it be?

No, that would be too obvious. Why had he done that? To gain attention?

Buriel twitched. “To gain attention.” He retraced his steps and checked the area he’d calculated would be the most reasonable location of the gunman, only to come up with blonde hairs. Could be anyone. Still…His senses were unparalleled, and the feeling in his gut was pointing to one person, and one person only.

The Phantom Killer had to be Kimikura Shogo, and the first one he really wanted to kill (but was hesitating to do so) was probably Danielle.

As he raced to stop this premonition from coming to pass by taking the rooftop, he noticed a bit of a scuffle happening near the front door. Danielle and Soshi had both raced out at once, though Soshi stopped in front of her, holding his arms out to stop her.
