“Step aside.” She was obviously seething by the way she set her teeth when she looked at him, but Soshi would not budge.
“I won’t let you confront him.”
Her eyes flashed. “I will cut you down right here, Soshi. Don’t think-”
“I love you.” He said, “And I love you so much that I can’t keep watching you do this anymore.” He tensed slightly, standing firm. “Please don’t. He’ll really kill you this time.”
“He’s aimed to kill me before,” she told him nonchalantly, ready to strong-arm him.
“But…” He paused. “…you can’t kill him.”
“I can!” She cried. “How could you say-”
“The phantom killer is Shogo.”
Danielle froze. Her gaze hardened a bit. “What?”
Soshi almost seemed as if he would cry, his expression so pained one might think he’d been hit in the gut. “I…I realized it yesterday. He’s been dropping hints the entire time. .i for us. To kill him.”
What? In its own way, it was beyond her comprehension. A villain, who was close to her, who was setting himself up to pay for his crimes. It wasn’t possible. It almost blurred the lines between “heroes” and “villains”.
Noting the obvious indecision she showed, Soshi’s fist connected with her temple in such a swift moment that she was caught off guard; the action was so immediate that she was properly KO’d, and he caught her when she swooned.
