City of Fallen Angels

It's been a while since I posted on here. I still check back once in a while but I've been trying to get my writing career off the ground by perfecting my art. So to any of you who care. Hi!

Anyway.....this is about the latest book I read called City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare.

I think I've mentioned her before and well this is the latest installment that takes place in this epic reality.

The first three books she wrote in this world were called the Mortal Instruments. And well this book has the number four on it but it is actually the first in another trilogy.

Recap-

Clary Fray falls in love with Jace, a Shadowhunter. Finds out she is also a Shadowhunter/ one who is descendant of a man who was given special powers by the Angel Raziel. Tragedy strikes and their love is threatened. Her best friend gets turned to a vampire, the man she's known all her life and loved as a father is found to be a werewolf and her mother has taken her to a warlock to get her Sight taken away every few years all of her life!

The warlock, Magnus Bane is awesome!! He is also gay and falls for Alec who is like a brother to Jace. Who is also found to be gay and in the end....yes they kiss!

Well now that the recap is done.

Let's move on to CoFA

Now as Ms. Clare said there is more Simon in this book. Which is the vampire (Clary's best friend.) Juggling two girl friends we can finally see the geeky clumsy guy from the first three books begin to understand the scope of what his vampire life will be. Of course his life is made more complicated because Clary had put a mark on him in the third book of MI series. The mark of Cain.

When everyone starts to come at him wanting him on their side he has to decide who to trust. Will it be Jordan Kyle, the man who hurt one of people he cares for? Or will it be Camille, a vampire who is more devious than she appears?

Of course if you enjoy a good action story filled with magic and intense love this is an awesome read.

Of course I haven't even mentioned the prequel to this series that she started last year with Clockwork Prince.

Maybe I'll post a review of that one. Remember everyone. Anime is great and so is art! But read a book once in a while because it takes more imagination when you don't have picture. Trust me you won't regret it.

Ms. Clare is a fantastic author who has not disappointed me so far.

Mistborn

Brandon Sanderson is my new..or I should say current.... favorite Author. He wrote the Mistborn trilogy.

Now Mistborn has one of the most original system of magic that I have ever heard of. It is based on Allomatic metals that are burned in the user's stomach. Sounds gross? Well I guess. But each metal gives the user a certain power. Like Pewter. It gives the person strength. Copper is like a radar blocker for the other allomancers that are trying to detect you using the metals. It is a fantastic series of books that has love and plot twists and in the end a religious undertone that isn't at all overbearing. The ending is a surprise...as all of Mr. Sanderson's book are.

I know I haven't been up here lately. If you'll forgive me but I've been working..and working hard... on my writing career. That seems to be going slower than I had originally planned. But none the less its going. I've all but given up on putting up my stories here. It's mostly fanfic..and even though there is nothing wrong with that... I've found an audience that likes my stories. But I'll keep coming on here to let you know about books I think are worth a read. I'm going to try to do a few more reviews up here on some of Mr. Sanderson's books. Like Elantris and Warbreaker. Both awesome reads.

Also when inspiration comes back for my art I'll begin posting them as well.

Until then my very small audience and my friends. I will be back. Soon I hope..

Another Taste

Another glimpse as the day when this gets published draws near. I'll let y'all know when it comes.

“Do you know what kind of flower this is?” She asked crouching down to touch and take in the flower’s scent. Carefully kneeling down beside her he plucked one while she watched him. The six petals curved around each other like an embrace. He remembered when he was young, his mother told him that it was her favorite flower because it represented family bonds and love.

“It’s called the fire flower.” Before she asked him why he held it over his hand and a flame sprung up engulfing the flower’s blossom. He glanced at Jinee’s face to see the reflection of the fire in her eyes as she stared entranced. Then as sudden as the fire came it vanished and he gave her the flower untouched or even singed, she took it. “It’s fireproof. “ He said automatically. Her smile grew and she bit her lip in a child like expression of pure joy.

She cradled the flower in her hand and stood up he followed when she turned her back so she didn’t see him holding his side. “I love this place.” He heard her say as if to herself.

“It’s not over yet.” He said making her turn. He pointed down the narrow ledge pathway and she looked down.

She stretched her neck out to look down but didn’t move her feet he noticed her neck flash and her brows strained with fear. “I don’t know it looks dangerous. “ He went to her and took the flower placing it in her hair and she looked at him her mouth hanging slightly open as if she was about to say something. He took her hand regretting it as soon as he did, he could feel her pulse thrumming, her cool skin sent flashes of heat through his body.

Intertwined

To be honest when I read the dust cover I was skeptical. I mean (one can time travel, one can raise the dead, one can tell the future, one can possess another). That sounded like a hard sell to me. But as I was waiting in line at the store I read a few pages.

Wow, you would think to have a main character have four voices in his head would be a tough thing to pull off and make believable but kudos to Gena Showalter she did it with eloquence and a twist of humor. The characters are real and despite an unlikely bit of circumstance and coincidence you love the them the minute you meet them.

This story takes you and pulls you. You cry and laugh and root for young Aden Stone. You feel for Mary Ann Gray and in the end you want more. With the vampire princess Victoria and her friend and protector who also happens to be a werewolf, Riley you find out that Aden is even more special than he knew and his past is intertwined......ha-ha....with Mary Ann's past.

All in all it's a great read and Gena Showalter's style hits home to the younger generation keeping it fresh and new. I definitely recommend reading Intertwined and as the ending suggests I hope there is more because I can't wait.

Just a taste

Here is an exerpt from my up and coming book.....just the first of many..

“I’m not sure what I should be looking for anyway.” Jared said throwing another brochure at her hitting the back of the one she was reading.

She put it down and looked at the one he discarded. They all looked the same to her. The smiling faces and good looking teens all wearing perfect cloths and even one had pictures of the beaches near the college where there were girls in bikinis. “You sure you don’t like the surfing college?” She asked throwing it back at him. He was lying on his bed his head propped up on pillows. He rolled his eyes putting the brochure aside.

“Oh yeah I can just imagine me surfing and getting attacked by a shark. My leg getting bitten off…” He paused then began in a softer tone. “At least my mom might notice me.” He sat up leaning on his knees. “Maybe I should just take a year off like you. It’ll give me time to decide.”

Giving him a skeptical glare she said. “You just want to go with me.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “Is it so wrong to want to go to college with your best friend? Maybe I’d miss you.”
