Chapter 18: Waking Up

~*Katata*~

He left me sitting on the bed. My heart wouldn’t stop pounding. I knew this wouldn’t last, which made me want to stay awake. Somehow I knew that once I closed my eyes and allowed myself to drift off this fantasy would shatter. But at the same time, I wanted to go to sleep before he came back in, just to end the sadness bubbling just beneath this happiness because I knew this was only an illusion. I laid down and closed my eyes. I felt Hei lay down next to me. He didn’t say anything, just wrapped his arms around me and held me.

“Thank you.” I whispered.

“No, thank you.” He said back. After that, I slowly slipped into sleep.

“Katara, hey Katara, wake up please!” Someone was calling my name. I opened my eyes and squinted at the florescent dining hall lights above me.

“Hiro? H-Hei?” I sat up quickly.

“Are you ok? Come on, you need to go to the nurses.” Hiro said quietly. Everyone in the dining hall was staring at me.

“Y-Yeah.” I stood up and held my head.

“I’ll walk you there.” Hei said. I blinked and nodded.

“Thank you…” I said and we left.

“What happened?” He asked seriously.

“I, I don’t know…” I stammered. He didn’t say anything as I tried to stop thinking about the tea Doc gave to me. ’Wait, no, it was his assistant that gave me tea, what if he accidentally gave me something of Doc’s. At least in that dream thing I knew Doc was somehow connected to it. Who else could it have been?’ We got to the nurses and Hei stayed with me until the nurse cleared me. She answered her phone as I slid off the bed and went to leave.

“Katara, the headmaster wishes to speak with you.” She said.

“Oh, alright.” I said slowly. Hei looked at me. “Um, will you walk with me? It’s just knowing me I would probably fall over again on the way there and get trampled by kids rushing off to class or something…” I laughed nervously. Hei nodded and held the door open for me.

“Y-Yeah.” He said. We walked to Doc’s office together and went in.

“You wanted to see me sir?” I asked.

“Are you alright Katara? I heard you fainted.” He looked up from his desk.

“I saw your assistant earlier, we had some tea. Were you mixing something up and didn’t tell him?” I asked.

“What?!” Hei exclaimed. Doc blinked.

“Um, I don’t recall mixing anything up, but anything could have happened…” Doc looked up at the ceiling. In a flash Hei was across his desk and grasping Doc’s collar, a look of pure anger on his face.
