Regarding myTragicENDING/Tess:
I’m quite willing to say that this section of this post is my primary motivation for writing this. Of all the masks and lies, this is the one that affected me personally.
myTragicENDING (whose account has since been deleted) was a writer on theOtaku who wrote a great deal of excellent Naruto fanfics. She was an excellent writer, had a definite style that suited her subjects, and had many stories to tell. As it was the early days of Fan Words and I was still new to editing/accepting them, I came upon her stories a lot and saw she was definitely talented, though perhaps others weren’t as quick to subscribe to her in response (which is often the case with Fan Words here).
So one day, TwoFacedLullaby (then Kohaku-Dono) featured myTragicENDING on her “Appreciation” World.
Immediate recognition. Subscribers. Hugs and favourites. Comments. “It really works!” Tess (myTragicENDING) said in a comment about the world.
Curiously, all the comments on her stories World came from the same 4 members. In the same order. All on the same day. In fact, her guestbook was even signed by these four members in the same order – these 4 member accounts (now deleted) also happened to be created on the same day.
The “Appreciation” World was a sham. All the adoration featured members got were from shell accounts artificially inflating statistics in much the same way they had inflated Kohaku-Dono’s own
I commented to Tess, told her how sorry I was that this artificial recognition was the only kind she would get, and that she truly was a good writer. Tess, in turn, went on to even dedicate a fanfic to me “for reaffirming her ability”.
Some time later, when TwoFacedLullaby was insinuating that theOtaku’s staff were out to get her and that I personally “was reopening old wounds” from her past that she wanted to forget, I brought up this incident with myTragicENDING. I mentioned how horrible it had to feel for her to find out that all her new fans were all fake. I was truly upset that this talented writer was getting the run-around in this fashion. TwoFacedLullaby relented.
Now of course, since myTragicENDING’s account has since been deleted, I can’t point out any of this directly anymore. I’ll concede that point now. But let us continue with this…
