“Why would this soldiers army want to attack Alura?”
Gavel answered. “They are led by Ancubare. She…”
“She.” The prince interrupted. “This leader is a woman?”
“In Rizel society your majesty, women and men are equally capable of being warriors or leaders. The only distinction is what they choose.” Jaden said in a dry tone.
Gavel continued. “She believes herself to be the Chosen of our people. But to be the true Chosen she must become a leader of two lands. By blood she is an elder of the A’shencove tribe. If she conquers Alura she’ll gain the loyalty of every Rizel. The Chosen is the predestined leader of our people. Even those who do not believe in her actions will have to submit to her leadership. It is our way.”
The prince was quiet, Jaden could see he was wrestling with everything he had learned. “I can see why you were so adamant to come before the Aluran Ball. But I can’t help you.”
“But your majesty.” Jaden said but was silenced with a finger.
“Jaden there is a threat I can see that, but until I see proof and not circumstantial evidence that this woman is planning on attacking Alura, I can’t commit soldiers to the border. And until we iron out the details of the treaty I will not authorize my men to cross the border.”
“At least send some men down to watch the border.” Jaden suggested.
