“My Lady.”
She turned her head and wanted to run to him. But wanting to show him how much she had learned she stood gracefully and walked to him with her hands out. He took them smiling. “Lord Jaden, how good it is to see you.” She said barely able to hold in her laughter.
His expression was nothing if not pure amusement. “Oh if your mother could see you now.”
She did laugh quietly. “She would faint from shock.”
“Your father too I think.” His smile faded. “How have you been? I’m sorry I had to leave like that.”
She shook her head. “Your duties are more important than babysitting me. I’ve managed. I spend allot of time here, in the gardens. Its peaceful.” They began walking along the path through the rose bushes.
“Have you made any friends?”
She looked down to the figure in her hands and placed it in her purse on her waist. “One.”
“One.” He sounded surprised. “Do I know her?”
Giving him a sidelong glance she answered. “He…is in the king’s guard.”
His brows rose. ”Lilly.” He said, she could hear the accusation in his voice.
“Jaden.” She imitated him. “It’s not like that…give me some credit.” He seemed to relax a bit but his eyes moved to her every now and then as if he was still thinking it. When they came around again back at the fountain she said looking out over the ledge by the cast-iron barrier. “My birthday is in two days.” She looked over at him with his arms crossed looking preoccupied.
