“What talks?”
He blinked in confusion. “They’ve been trying to iron out the treaty and have been in conference all night and most of the day. I thought you knew. There are whispers that war is coming.”
“Now don’t be filling the girl’s heads with rumors.” They both turned as Othien strolled in holding a pipe in his hand.
“Supper’s ready.” Clara came in wearing a floral apron. Lilly held her smile as best she could.
The meal was delicious and Lilly truly enjoyed herself. Afterwards Captain Othien made a fire and Ana and Clara sat by it while Rak and Othien went back to their game of Dim Chi. “I have the perfect dress all picked out for you. A proper spring color.” Clara’s tone held the disapproval for her choice in colors for her birthday. “With your beautiful long hair we’ll have flowers and oh, it will be wonderful.”
Lilly smiled the whole time thinking of how much Clara was enjoying dressing her up for the Ball. She glanced over at Rak who was trying to concentrate but a small smirk touched his lips. “I want you to know how grateful I am for everything you’ve done. I realize I’m not the easiest student.”
The old woman waved it away. “My dear, you’ve become like the daughter I never had. It’s been an honor to instruct you. You are by far the most beautiful woman in Alura, on the inside and out.” She took a sip of cider wine and sighed. “Tomorrow we will show everyone, even Lord Jaden.”
