Lilly was surprised by her comment and laughed. “Why does it matter if Jaden notices anything?” The woman gave her a long lasting stare that made her absurd thought quite clear. Appalled she laughed again. “I hope you’re not suggesting….”
Clara held up her hand. “I didn’t say a word.” A small smile was still present on her face making Lilly sniff and stare into the fire. Tomorrow she would dance, have a good time and when she didn’t find any man worthy of marrying she would go home. She found that was what she wanted more than anything, to see her father again and her brother, she even wanted to see her mother. Part of her wanted adventure and action, but then her emotions had gotten mixed up and she wanted to go home where she could think clearly.

“Can I confide in you Lord Jaden?” The prince asked his eyes focused on the dancing people before him.
“Of course your highness.”
He grimaced into his glass of wine. “I hate theses things.”
Jaden smiled wryly. “As do I.”
“Remind me, why we do it then.”
Jaden looked to the prince standing beside him. “Duty and responsibility.”
“Ah yes.” The prince sighed. “Well at least there are many beautiful women this year. My father had been adamant that I find a wife. Now that he can barely speak I think perhaps he was right.” He paused. “Speaking of which where is your friend?” He emphasized the word, friend. “I thought she was going to be here.” His eyes scanned the crowd of nobility.
