I looked out onto the great green field. The wind was gently blowing the thin blades of grass towards the west. It was summer, and it was hot without that gentle breeze... I sighed. I thought about what I had discovered not but two weeks ago...A power I had never realized before. It happened at night, and I thought it was a dream at first, but it was real. I think I had somehow opened a new dimension in my world, Indarius.
I was relaxed, until I heard a familiar voice call my name. "Kara!" I looked to where the voice was coming from. It was Hayden Carter, a good friend of mine, in fact, my best friend. He has this wild blond hair, bright blue eyes, fair skin, and was tall and lean as well as muscular. Yeah, he was strong and skilled too.
But that's not why he's my best friend; we've known each other since we were three because of our parents. Both of our parents work for the Great Province, our city's government. So we were basically slapped together in the middle of their lives between politics and no secrets were safe, so we became good friends and trusted each other.
"What is it, Hayden?" I asked. "C'mon, there's this big argument going on back at the office! I think it's about you, too!" He said excitedly. He grabbed my hand and led me to the office in town. The streets were busy with steam engine vehicles and people walking the markets along the sidewalks. The buildings were mostly made of brick, and were so close together they couldn't have yards. The place I lived in was called the Province of Indyrea. Strange, I know, but it's how the governments organized it. It works, so I don't complain.
Anyway, we finally made it to the office without getting ran over by cars or people. When we opened the door, we were greeted by many pairs of eyes looking at us rather annoyed-like. Me, being as shy as I am, started to blush and hid behind Hayden. He quietly looked down at me. "Kara, honey, what are you two doing here?" My mom, Shana, asked while standing up. Her beautiful red hair fell onto her narrow shoulders, and her glowing crystal-like eyes calmly examined me. I was wearing a simple violet dress with my usual black jacket and orange handbag hanging off my shoulder and resting on my hip. I gulped.
"Kara, we were just talking about you." My father, Emil, asked. He had light, brilliant black hair that stopped at his shoulders. His clothes mostly consisted of black, too. "Talking about what, exactly?" Hayden asked. One of the other men at the table, the mayor Travis Kane, slowly stood up. He was old, in his 60s, at least. His hair was getting gray and white, and his skin was dark against his light-colored suit. "It's the governments... they're weakening." He said softly. "What does that have to do with me?" I asked politely, but scared at the same time. I don't think I wanted to know.
"You-you know what you are, don't you?" He supposed. I raised an eyebrow. "I don't know what I am, but I know who I am, and what I can do." I told him. Mr. Kane raised both of his eyebrows at me this time. "What you can do... is a link to a very powerful man's desire. Do you wish to know this?" He said. I thought about it. I am not sure what he meant, but it sounded interesting to me at the time. So I said yes. "Prince Aries, is his name. He is on a conquest, and his goal is to take over the world and shatter it into ruin, just to rebuild his own." Mr. Kane explained.
I blinked. "But what does-" "You, Miss Kara, have a power that he is after. You can easily enter other dimensions by will; time travel, if you will. You can travel through the other worlds without causing a disturbance within the balance." He told me quickly. "So, I've told you. Now you must do something for me. The only way to defeat Prince Aries, is to find the sacred sword..." He added. I heard Hayden gasp behind me. "You don't mean... the Midnight Blade?!" He asked. Mr. Kane nodded. My eyes grew wide. No way... the sword that is in all of the legends! The only sword that was able to be held by mortals and still be strong enough to repel an even powerful god! The Midnight Blade...
"What say you? Are you ready to save the world of Indarius?" He inquired. I looked at my parents, who stared on helplessly. I then glanced at Hayden, who was speechless. "I... But, what if I'm not strong enough to wield the sword? Why can't Hayden do it? He's a lot tougher than I am. So why do I..." I said, trailing off, "Wait! Do I have to go alone?" My parents gasped and looked at Mr. Kane in concern. "No, of course not. I have a traveling mercenary who is willing to go with you on your journey to find the Midnight Blade. His name is Ryuu, a skilled swordsman himself. He will also teach you how to properly use a sword. As for you, Hayden..." He said, looking at Hayden, "Your parents are obliged to allow you to go with her, help protect her. She is our only true hope against the forces of Prince Aries." Hayden nodded and said, "Yes sir!"
And from that moment on, I will never forget the last thing my father told me. "I love you, Kara. Be careful and be strong. Time goes by faster than you think, and you can't predict it, nor control it. Remember this, okay?" "Yes, father." After that I hugged my mom, who whispered an "I love you too" in my ear. With that last minute, everything in my once-ordinary life was changed forever.

AN: Here is my entry for the Otaku's Halloween Writer's Jam. Hope everyone likes it! ~~
Cold spirit lingering
Her devilish smile fading
Because his echo is still there
She glances, everywhere
The echo of her past is nowhere to be seen
How long has it been?
Days, months, or years
The time has come, to dry her tears
Where is he, her failed attempt?
Did her darling not know her concept?
She only needed to end his life
To be triumph in her own strife
She had him once, cornered
With the shining metal of the blade
For only a few years, had he adorned
Her life and future, now only to be made?
Nevertheless, he is being stubborn, as always
He wishes to live but must not
A new beginning, she has sought
But with him alive, it is not so
With his existence, echoing
It is not fair, that he can still be there
All her life, apart from her, living and walking
Without a care, his existence, ever echoing
He is gone, safe for now in the light
Safe for now, his echoes quieting, out of her sight
But the echoes of his footsteps will forever linger
And be there, day and evening, on this Hallow's Eve night
Echoes, echoing, ever echoing…
The echoes of her past lost with him
The buried love ever deepening
The echoes, leaving on without her
Echoes
Once upon a time, there was a story told
By a merchant, oh so bold,
They said one thing is the same,
As the other, without a two-faced mirror,
But only one, (oh only one),
Were the same as the other
A traveler came by one day
And analyzed all the things he could say
The words came out of his mouth one by one:
“You can’t look at two things at the same time,”
But the merchant looked up at him and replied
“It’s that one, this one, both, or none,”
The traveler sat cross-legged and spread his hands:
“I don’t believe this, one in the same,”
Back to back, they went all day and night
“Here, I’ll show you once and for all,” He said.
All the while, the darkness was swallowed by the light
The traveler bent over, clearly looking with blank astonishment
As it was held out, facing him and before, he knew it
He was looking at both during the same time,
Only… with a whole knew sight (Yeah, it was only one)
But the traveler had no two-faced mirror,
So at this the merchant was amazed
Only his own two eyes, now open and alert
Now and on, he will remember
To look with an open mind and have a heart
Because anything can be
One in the same!
All my life, I feel like I have been alone. However, it was on one day that I felt completely different… On that rainy, foggy day, my world rose up and the sun finally shined in through the gathering clouds. On that day, I met her… as well as other people who changed my life forever…
It all started out on an ironically bright day. My morning was not any different from any other. Nevertheless, I felt different… Lonely, as some would call it. However, in the state the world is in right now, how could I not be?
Speaking of the world’s current state, my job has been demanding more and more people ever since a certain incident. I do not really understand it myself, but other people have informed me on it. From what I have heard, a piece of land from New Mexico had been mysteriously broken off and was pushed up into the sky with such a great force that it has stayed afloat for almost a whole week now. If you asked me how, and I told you in a few days, I would not even believe my own words. Anyways, I am getting ahead of myself.
You should know that I do not trust many people. These days, it is hard to even trust your own family members. Yeah, I know it is crazy. There is a good reason for that, though. Seeing as how our government has practically crumbled, everything is scattered. Me, I now work as a pilot. Although I have not really been operating airplanes for quite some time now, I hope I remember how…
Furthermore, back to that incident… a newly formed unit of gathered government officials have hired scientists and explorers to go up there and research the piece of land. Their progress has gone as far as building a small lab or facility already. Rumors say that there are some people that are revolting against the scientists, trying to ambush them. Thus, I think that they are hiding something on that piece of land and they do not want anyone to know about it.
When I went out to work at the warehouse/hangar, I took a shortcut. As I was walking down the street, large grey clouds began to block the sun. Shadows of the clouds crawled on the sidewalks, and rain began to fall. That was my life’s first turning point…
“Anaka, what are you doing?” A man’s voice shouted.
“Get away from there; it’s too late anyway!” A women's voice screamed.
The voices captured my curiosity. What was happening around the corner? What I saw made me gasp. A large, black ship was slowly taking off from the side of the street! Either they were in a hurry, or they were having issues. I think it was a little of both. I looked at the people who were screaming and shouting. They were looking that the black ship, and shaking their fists in the air. I followed their eyes to see what they were watching…
It was a young woman! She was hanging on for dear life by a net from the side of the ship!
To Be Continued…
