“Lord Jaden!” He turned as Rak came running and stopped short of him heaving. “There was an attack on the borderlands. Casualties are flooding into the city, prince Micael has sent for you.” The second it took to process everything was long it took for him to launch into a full run.
He found the prince shouting orders to the wave of wagons coming through the city gates, filled with injured men, women and children. He looked at Jaden. “I suppose you want to say I told you so.” He said before yelling for one of the guards to help with the injured. Then Rak’s heavy footsteps stopped just beside him.
“Sarrak go to your grandfather. He needs your help with finding more beds to put these people on.” The prince ordered. Rak saluted quickly then turned and ran to find his grandfather. Demon help to take a litter down from a wagon of a man groaning in pain. But when his eyes focused on him panic sent him rolling off onto the ground trying to crawl away form him screaming. Instead of trying to help he stood back allowing others to get him back onto the litter. He sighed hard knowing he was not going to be much help here. Gavel came followed closely by Pippen and Krogh who looked around their faces grim.
“Jaden!” The prince shouted. He ran over seeing him leaning over a litter. He increased his speed when he saw the older man lying there with blood dried on his face.
“Lester!” He dropped to his knees beside his butler, whose head and chest were bandaged. His eyelids flickered at the sound of his name.
“Lord Jaden.” He whispered grunting in pain. “They came and destroyed everything. I tried to stop them…”
“Shh. It’s alright. You rest and get better. We’ll talk later.” The old man tried to nod but instead closed his eyes. Jaden looked up at the prince.
