The Blood of Rizel prt 1

“I also asked you a question that you didn’t answer.” She shot back.

He thought for a moment his anger mostly gone form his eyes but an uneasiness was there under his controlled features. “It is possible that Alura may be attacked by a renegade army of Rizel warriors called the soldiers.” He relented finishing what he started to say before.

Everything else in her mind washed away and she walked to him. “The prince knows of this?”

He nodded. “He isn’t convince enough to send soldiers to the border. As I said it isn’t definite.”

“But Gavel is sure isn’t he?”

He nodded again and sighed looking down at her, she saw the last of his anger melt away. “That reminds me. I’m sorry about your birthday. If I could’ve walked out I would have in a second but…”

“I understand.” She interrupted his apology, she had forgiven him the second Rak told her of the talks. “Your duty is more important. This treaty is more important. The Rizel could be great allies and if things are as bad as they seem, we may need their friendship now more than ever.”

The smile that spread across his face was a relief and amusement. He picked up her hand and kissed it gently. “I will miss you when you return home. I’d forgotten you were my bird.” She returned his smile remembering all the times she had listened to him as a child. He would pace back and forth talking about things she really didn’t understand and in the end he would figure out whatever problem that he was faced with. Then he would tap her nose and call her his bird and tell her that every man needed one.
